  1. Looks like it got tired an fell asleep on its side but in all seriousness, hope all the passengers are o.k

    • Friend says:

No, my friend just blacked out for no reason…probably lack of oxygen to the brain from asthma and meds. Thank God she’s still alive!

      • Totally agree, you can fix the car but we only have one life. so I am glad she is o.k, please tell her don’t stress out about the car it is material, but her life is precious.

  2. Truth is killin' me... says:

    Not drunk…not speeding…yadda…yadda…yadda!!

  3. Chart says:

Top heavy car, easier to flip than you’d think.

    • Goodidea Badidea says:

At 35kph? It takes a lot of effort to flip a car like that without violent steering or excessive speed (or both). Top heavy?

It’s amazing how many cars get wrecked around here seemingly on a Sunday drive in clear driving conditions during perfectly fine weather.

      Sheesh

  4. Watch out for that TREE! says:

Looks like a result from texting!

  5. A Relative says:

Truth is killin’me, why don’t you go —- yourself. FYI she had taken medication earlier in the day and dozed off at the wheel. Some people really make me sick, always so quick to jump to conclusions or point fingers without all the facts. She is ok thankfully and that should be your main concern instead of making comments when you weren’t even there.

    • Marie says:

Should not be driving if medication causes drowiness

    • Road Toad says:

Did this “medication” come with a warning “Do not operate machinery or drive while taking this medication” ? It was a tree today…could be a child next time !

  6. Road Toad says:

On a straight section of road. If i was the popo , I’d check some cell phone records !

  7. Millie says:

All these Know It Alls….hopefully it won’t happen to you.

    • Smiths says:

Hope you. All know she was not a young person either ,so stop the talk about cell phone and the drunk driving just know she is ok and well.

      • jojo says:

oh so I guess old people dont text or drink. like that 70 year old drunk ass taxi driver on front street

  8. Ringmaster says:

That must be serious vexed tree to attack a car like that. Surely there are laws to stop trees attacking cars? It’s scary that I could be driving along minding my own business when “pow” a tree jumps out and turns my car over. It’s not right, and it must be stopped now.

  9. Nuffin but da Truth says:

A Relative states she had taken medication earlier…

    WHAT was she doing driving!

  10. A Relative says:

Why are some people STILL looking to blame the victim? I said she took medication earlier in the day, hours before she had the accident. When I spoke to her at the hospital she said she wasn’t well and thought she had dozed off. She could have passed out or fallen asleep from the medication. Who knows and who cares, my point was she didn’t hop behind the wheel with the intention of wrecking her car. She wasn’t speeding or drunk because she doesn’t even drink like that so stop jumping to conclusions. This could be a relative of yours and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to read hurtful comments such as these.

    • RawOnion says:

So why are you trolling the comments? Bear in mind, if she took meds and wasn’t feeling well behind the wheel and crashed and killed someone then what would be YOUR excuse for her then? It’s all about responsibility. I dont know if Bermuda has the same laws as the US but if you take meds and get behind the wheel and crash, it’s the same as being drunk.

  11. A Relative says:

It could have been but it wasn’t. It was an accident you freak.

    • Road Toad says:

“You freak” comment is unwarranted and shows you are addressing this issue with blind compassion. I respect your loyalty. This incident could be the result of an illegal action.
Was it driving under the influence [DUI], in this case medication or driving without due care and attention [sleeping at the wheel]? I have not lowered myself to call you or your “relative” names but there is something very wrong in your protection of a person who has obviously committed a traffic violation.
“It could have been but it wasn’t” is an immature comment.
If I get a speeding ticket and the judge says “I could have caused an accident” and I say “But I didn’t”…..I should not have to pay the fine ?
      Own up to fault.

      • Frank'N'Onions says:

I doubt that a magistrate would let anyone off because “it was an accident” whether there was alcohol, legal drugs or if they were sniffing glue in the car. The fact of the matter is that the accident happened in a wide-open area during clear, dry weather, plowed over a plant and flipped the car.

We laugh about the poor plant and have sympathy for the driver who could easily have been injured more seriously but do the comments not speak to the obvious denial that there is somethings clearly wrong with this scene? This should not happen in a place with a 35kph speed limit but we all too often see pictures on Bernews and other news outlets that clearly show that it happens almost weekly. This doesn’t take into account the many single vehicle “wall accidents” which happen almost every weekend.

There is something clearly wrong with the privileges given to us as drivers and our attitudes to road traffic safety in a place where there should be few if not negligible road traffic accidents.

      • Millie says:

“This incident is the result of an illegal action”. Wow Road Toad!! That sounds very factual. Were you there by chance? Or is this merely your opinion? Heaven forbid if you ever find that you are in this situation. We’ll see how opinionated you are once you actually KNOW the facts. Get a life!!!

    • Family Man says:

That tree could have just as easily been a little kid.

Driving under the influence doesn’t just refer to booze or a little weed. It also covers prescription drugs that make you “sleepy”. She should not have been driving and I hope she’s charged accordingly.

  12. P$%ckyou says:

Everybody worrying about the victim of the car……WTF about that poor trees family looking on in horror!!!!!

    • Road Toad says:

The perpetrator was the car driver.
The victim was the car AND the tree………….THIS TIME !

  13. SoMuchMore says:

At least it happened there than on the causeway cause she could have ended up overboard

  14. Observant says:

Very glad the driver is ok…but am I the only one who’s glad there’s one less of these over-sized cars on the road tonight?

  15. Time Shall Tell says:

Come on Bernews, when are you going to introduce the thumbs up/thumbs down, some of these comment on here I tell you…..

  16. WowoWow says:

@Road Toad. There is something seriously wrong with you. Somebody had an accident and could have been badly hurt and all you can think about is a car and a tree, neither of which has feelings or emotions. Wow…
@Observant. There is some seriously wrong with you too. I guess everybody with “over-sized” cars should just flip them over right? One by one let’s rid the island of big cars by landing people in the hospital. Serious lack of compassion for another human being. Wow…

    • Smh says:

How gracious of you to call these heartless bloggers ….human.

      • Frank'N'Onions says:

Obviously cars are being made which are more likely to tip over than a unicycle. This is by design and are made specifically for Bermuda’s tricky high speed limit and the walls that seem to move dynamically in proportion to the skill of the driver.

I’m no engineer but I’m thoroughly impressed by the number of flipped cars per capita in Bermuda where car manufacturers spend months if not years of engineering and design to make sure that cars stay on four wheels.

  17. Xman says:

Of course you wasn’t speeding — the Car got angry at you and went up on it’s side.
For some reason of shear stupidity a lot of people in bermuda think that they can test these little cars that we have on our winding roads at high speeds. — if professional Race car Drivers smash up Race Cars that is Built for Speed that what chance
    dose a person Bermuda have.

  18. Missy says:

Its funny how everyone has an opinion on situations that they know nothing about. Typical Bermudians, quick to assume and prejudge, without having any facts. The driver is ok and thats all that matters. All the critics take a break.

  19. Winnie Dread says:

Hmmm just wondering who goes behind the wheel with the intention of wrecking thier car. It is what it is if you are going to blame the medication then she should not have taken it before driving, or she should not have driven after taking it. It still is impaired driving via medication,or alcohol, or drugs oh same as medication ?? just sayin……

  20. A Relative Too says:

What’s so ironic is she would be the first person to lend a helping hand to others in need or time of crisis. Yet she is taking so many licks and people are making jokes about hurt trees, etc. She is naturally mortified at what happened and her first concern was that nobody else was hurt. Nobody is disputing that driving under the influence of medication is wrong, however they are still trying to gather all the facts at this early stage. Rather sickening how judgmental people can be, reminds me of all the daggers thrown at the guy that flipped his car the other day, only to discover he had a heart attack. It is not a joke, nothing funny at all and I’m stunned that people actually sit and type those words out not caring how they are received. Never thought I would see the day my fellow Bermudians could be so cynical and cold. SMH

    • jon says:

why do you even care about ppls comments, we all have made comments about others at some point, so just read them or not and leave them as they are COMMENTS.

  21. A Relative Too says:

Jon, why do you care that I care? From your “Hahaha” comments earlier, you are obviously a simple-minded juvenile. Hope you’re laughing as hard when something happens to you or somebody you love. I’m a strong believer in Karma…or it called hexes?? Choke on that one!!!

  22. countrygirl says:

Wow wow wow. Is all I can say. I hope she is gonna be okay. I also hope that she doesn’t read these hurtful comments. I do agree that what goes around comes around. God always has a way of showing one person what another person goes through. He puts others shoes on our feet. Just so you can see and feel. What it is like. Bermudians. It’s your mouths.

  23. Truth is killin' me... says:

sticks and stones…you know the rest!

  24. Triangle Drifter says:

Not to pick on this driver in particular but have all of these car crashers &flippers ever thought of forming a car stunt & demolition Derby company?

Apparently no driving skills are required.

  25. joker says:

Let’s just say it in simpler words soo many of you understander what had happen. The careing lady took madiCation she fell asleep her foot hit the pedal and the pedal hit the metal causing an increase of speed under the influence nuff said. Two illegal acts of the law wether you knew what was going on or not.
