Jr Footballers Play Warm Up Matches In Florida

The Bermuda Football Association National Academy U14, U13 and U12 select teams have arrived safely in Naples Florida. The team will be participating in the Naples Cup Tournament Aug. 23-25, 2013 at the North Collier Soccer Complex in Naples, Florida.

On Thursday the players had the chance to visit the Naples Zoo during the morning, before traveling to Ft. Myers in the evening for warm-up matches against the Lee County Strikers.

The U12 NA Select, lead by coach Jermaine “Speeedy” Smith quickly settled into their game style against the Lee County Strikers U12, and easily dominated their US counter parts winning by a large margin. Bermuda maintained a clean sheet not allowing Lee County to score. Both teams are placed in the U12 Boys Gold Division for the Naples Cup.

The U12 NA Select will open tournament play with a match vs the Naples FC tonight at 6:30pm.

The U13 NA Select, led by coach Sergio Goater, played the Lee County Striker U13 in their warm up match at the Kelly Road Soccer Fields Complex. Bermuda were ahead 4-0 during the second half before play was halted by a thunderstorm and the match abandoned.

The U13 NA Select will open tournament play with a match against The Soccer Pit Immokalee [Cobras] in the U13 Boys Gold Division at 7:00 PM tonight.

The U14 NA Select, led by coach Maceo Dill, were matched against the U15 Lee County Strikers. The Florida based team presented a challenge for their younger Bermuda opponents with their physical dominance and speed. Bermuda were trailing in the second half 4-1 before play was halted and the match abandoned due to the thunder storm.

The U14 NA Select will open tournament play against The Soccer Pit – Immokalee [Cobras] at 7:30 PM tonight.

National Academy Director Richard Todd is leading the delegation on this tour to South Florida. The contingent contains 47 players and coaches and approximately 20 parents and siblings who have accompanied the group. The teams are due back to Bermuda on Monday [Aug 26].
