Election Committee Hearings Start On Monday
The Parliamentary Election Committee will commence public hearings next Monday [Sept 23] at 12 noon in in the Library at the House of Assembly.
Established by Parliament in June 2013, the Select Committee is chaired by Walton Brown [PLP] and includes fellow parliamentarians Jeanne Atherden [OBA], Susan Jackson [OBA], Glen Smith [OBA] and Kim Wilson [PLP].
Chairman of the Select Committee on Elections Walton Brown Jr said, “Issues to be examined include whether or not candidates are required to disclose interests in government contracts, voter intimidation and absentee ballots.
“Members of the community with expertise in the above topics will be invited to appear before the committee or make written submissions.
“Community leaders invited to share their knowledge of the topics and answer Election Committee questions on the topics include; Ministers, former leaders, back-benchers, party candidates and members of the community.
“The sessions will take place in The Library at the House of Assembly. This schedule of hearings will conclude 26 September.”

Well, those three items are pretty simple. Yes, candidates should disclose interests in Government contracts. Walton should know a thing or two about voter intimidation. Absentee voting should have been set up years ago. If we can do our banking securely from anyplace on Earth, why can we not do the simple action of voting?
No brainer stuff.
