    I hope everyone was okay.

    • Mazumbo says:

I hope so too, I was travelling west in that direction and a police car was parked in the middle of the road just past the flower shop I asked the police officer why he didn’t have the road blocked at the junction to Lindo’s he said they were short staffed I had to turn around and when I came to T street there were two Police officers one directing traffic and one holding an umbrella for him.
      WTF

      • Family Man says:

“He” couldn’t have told you anything. He was a she and the accident scene did not take long to clear.

        • Mazumbo says:

I didn’t want to know anything ya dreamer my point was why have the road blocked off a half a mile from the next junction and the person I spoke to was a man.

  2. Common cent$ says:

They need to start spew traps all through that stretch! Slow the heck down– it’s sad to say that a jogger or walker is going to get critically injured before they start busting people for speeding through south shore!

    • Franklin jr says:

There’s already been one – a woman was cleared off her bike maybe 6 months ago? Broke at least one shoulder, maybe both… hit and run, driver never found

      • Tommy Chong says:

There was another around the same time. A friend of mine witnessed it but couldn’t get the licence because they said the vehicle was going so fast. They said the guy the vehicle hit arm was mangled like a twisted rubber band with the palm of his hand facing the wrong direction from the impact of the driver hitting the victims handle bars. Something like that could ruin a persons life forever & for the culprit to just keep going shows how sick some people’s mentality here is.

    • Nuffin but da Truth says:

      what’s a *spew trap*

  3. Family Man says:

There must be a new corner on that stretch – that’s why he didn’t see it coming.

Good thing nothing was coming the other way.

  4. X man says:

Yep’ – he was only doing 20 mph —
In the last 10 years I’ve seen to many Cars upside down – these little light weight Cars they make
today become Kites when tested. — they simply can’t take it.
My 25 year old son wonders why I won’t ever let him use the Car and keep the Keys on me or I keep them hidden at all times. – as soon as he gets hold of my Car he is going to want to see what she can do!
I hope all is well with the occupants of this Vehicle.

    • BERMY GUY says:

LET US KNOW WHEN YOU LET YOUR 25 YEAR OLD SON OUT YOUR HOUSE TO LIVE HIS OWN LIFE

GET YA HEAD OUT THE SAND THE WORLD GOES ON CATCH UP TO IT.

      • Back-in-the-day-girl says:

If this lady’s son wants to drive a car, then make his tail go out and work to buy his own! Mom probably worked very hard to pay for her car. Now you want her to let Mr. Junior Not-so-responsible go and test it out, flip it, and then mom has to catch a bus. No flippin’ way! She must know her son.

    • Logic76 says:

You don’t let your 25 year old son use the car? Wow…I second what Bermy Guy says!

  5. Raymond Ray says:

I too am glad to hear no-one was innocently hurt. Far too often we see these types of accidents occurring :-( “If one rides like lightening then they are likely to crash like thunder”

  6. Wait and see says:

Unless you are certain of the cause, dont be so quick ta assume that speed was a factor. The road conditions are horrible and slick, fatique, medical condition. These are other factors that may have played a part. Glad everyone was ok.

    • Franklin Jr says:

Bermuda EASILY has the most potential “medical condition” related accidents I’ve ever heard of in my life! Another poster down says maybe there was bad visibility.

Here’s a novel thought: drive according to conditions and take some responsibility for your actions! If you want to understand the moral/social/economic decline of this island, all you have to do is take a look through these “accident” threads here. There is ALWAYS a chorus of “well, you kneeewwwwww, you can’t judgggge, the driver migtha had a (insert reason here)” … NO! SHUT UP AND STOP MAKING EXCUSES!

      • Franklin Jr says:

And yes, I understand that it’s unlikely the driver is posting – I’m talking about collective responsibility. Holding each other accountable. This island is apathy-ing itself right down the drain.

    • Grubster says:

Yes, there’s always the alcohol factor too. It is Bermuda after all and drinking and driving is seen as the norm.

  7. Johnboy says:

I hope all the above posters realise that it was raining hard in that area at that time. I know because I too had to make a detour.

Get the facts please – maybe they couldn’t see due to poor visibility!

    • 1minute says:

How fast must one be going to put their car onits side? The speed limit is 35 KPH. Poor visability, they should of slowed down. Even at 35 KPH it is hard to flip a car…

  8. Grand Architect of the Universe says:

100% of the time it is bad driving.

0% of the time it is speed.

100% of morons blame speed because morons can’t drive.

    • Hudson says:

Dude – I disagree… If you drive bad but you drive slowly chances are when you crash you’ll probably live to see another day… If you drive bad and fast and then you crash, you’ll probably see ICU or not live..

  9. bermudagirl says:

    Hope everyone was ok

  10. Oh no says:

Oh gosh. Hope whoever was in the car is ok. Something like that can really be scary.

  11. MyGoodness says:

@Johnboy I agree. Everyone is always so quick to assume before knowing the true full story. Did you not hear the weather last night?? Obviously not. You don’t know if the person was speeding or being negligent. I am just so glad no one was seriously hurt. I hope the driver recovers nicely.

  12. Triangle Drifter says:

Lots of assumptions here. That car was doing a terrific speed. It went in to resilient bushes, which luckily for the driver acted as an additional airbag as they broke, but there was incredible kinetic energy in that little car & the bushes broke as it went in.

The driver is very lucky to be alive & gotten away with such minor injuries.

What was this guy thinking moments before he crashed? The road was wet. It was raining lightly. The road is plenty wide there. The bend is only a slight one. Yes, I saw the results up close only a few minutes after it happened.

The crash happened at about 11:30 & could be heard over 1/4 mile away as it took out power over a large area. Don’t know if the boom heard was the actual crash or a transformer exploding just east of the flourist.

Personally, I don’t feel any sympathy for this young guy. Why was he doing that speed? I do feel sorry for his family who now has to deal with the consequences of his action. That car did not crash itself into those bushes & utility pole.

He inconvenienced thousands of people blacking out the power over a wide area. They are spending untold time resetting clocks, TVs, timers, all that stuff that defaults to new settings when it loses power. He cost BELCO thousands in lost service for 3 hours & the repair crew which had to get out in the rain to fix the damage he did. 2:30AM the power was back on. Thankyou BELCO.

Here endeth the rant. Bring on the Boo Hoo brigade.

  13. Ms. Sarah (Sar) Chasm says:

It is clear that there is a bit of a bend in the road at that part. If Government took all the bends out of our roads and made them straight, none of this would happen.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

No, the simplest way to make roads safer, especially for cyclists, would be to bank the corners, just as we have all seen anywhere we may have traveled.

Everytime the roads are repaved it is done the same old same old way, way. No improvements.

    • GoodIdeaBadIdea says:

I wish it was that simple. You didn’t factor in the moving telephone poles into your equation. Straight roads are fine when telephone poles don’t jump out randomly in front of you.

I’ve seen more flipped over cars here than I’ve ever seen anywhere else. You would think that they are running a 24×7 rally here in Bermuda judging by the amount of CARnage on the roads.

I feel sorry for the victims and their families but I can’t believe that speed and bad driving isn’t the case in the majority of these accidents. Hopefully insurance will replace that new car that got trashed and the driver doesn’t suffer any long term injuries.

  14. Tony Wardman says:

Poor visibility isn’t an excuse. If you can’t see to drive, you should pull over until visibility improves. Anytime a car lands on it’s roof – driver error, 100% of the time.

  15. Bermy Girl says:

I have heard that the young man had a medical issue and is in a coma. STOP making assumptions and have a little RESPECT people! Not every accident involves speed or negligence. Hope he comes out of this ok.

    • Voice says:

Thank you to who ever this is! This is true and all of you are a** holes to assume !!! For once all of you shut up and think of the family and what they are going through! You all are pathetic and and should be ashamed!! Disgusted by all of you and ashamed to say I live amongst you all!!!!

  16. Triangle Drifter says:

And up go your insurance rates some more. How much for a $30-40K car these days. I don’t know. I have always only carried 3rd party. Over 35 years. No claims. My theory is that by careful driving & not paying for full coverage, the money saved pays for the next car.

Everyone in my houshold understands that they are liable for stupid driving that causes crashes. This understanding has resulted in only a couple very minor fender benders.

Amazing how being accountable improves driving skills.

  17. SouthDev says:

I hope the driver is okay.. But dang….man!!! My neighborhood had a blackout till 4:30 am.. As soon as he flipped the car the lights went out.. It was raining heavy.. So I couldn’t open the windows to get cool breeze.. So I had to sleep in the heat.. -_- No A/C, Fan, Wifi, or TV!

  18. Nuffin but da Truth says:

Someone said they wont let their 25 year old son drive their car..I dont blame them either,
I wont let my wife drive my car either!..MWHAhahahaha!!!

btw, that stretch of road IS a Speeders Alley and we all know it.
