January 7, 2014

louise_jackson The Cabinet Office advised today [Jan 7] that a Condolence Book is available for signing in honour of the late Louise Jackson, OBE.

Members of the public wishing to sign the book can visit the Cabinet Office between 10.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m., tomorrow Wednesday, January 8 through Friday January 10.

Known in her later years for her contribution to politics, Mrs Jackson’s service to Bermuda extended back decades with her involvement in both education and the performing arts.

She passed away last week at 83 years old.

Just before her passing, Mrs Jackson was named to the Queen’s 2014 New Years Honours List, awarded an OBE for her public service and service to seniors.

Well known in political realm for her tireless work on behalf of seniors, Mrs Jackson also leaves behind a strong legacy in the performing arts.

The Jackson School of Dance replaced their website homepage with a photo of Mrs Jackson, and a message saying: “Our founder and mentor Louise Jackson sadly passed away this week. Louise was a pioneer of dance in Bermuda bringing all communities together.

“She understood how important the Performing Arts are for shaping the minds and bodies of our children. Louise made sure every child who wanted to dance was given a place at the School. For 60 years thousands of children have learned to love the art of dance because of you.

“Thank you Louise for such a legacy. Your love for the island and people of Bermuda will never be forgotten.”

Is she being afforded a ‘State Funeral’?

Thank you for looking out for the rights of Senior Citizens. Who will look out for us?

      I hope so !!

  2. Valirie Marcia Akinstall says:

Point of clarity here…Will Bermuda afford state funerals for all MPs or just some and what are the criterion?

I thought that Bermuda has NO money left but for the bare essentials?

Please do not be influenced and caught in the emotional empathy of the recent state funeral for Nelson Mandela. His life was super extraordinary and he was the former PRESIDENT of South Africa.

Please do not set a precedent of state funerals for MPs, it wrong and in the current economic times, would this be the best way to spend public funds?

We appear to go down the same roads, in politics, never being brave enough to do the right thing but rather the most politically popular thing, even as we berate the PLP for their super extravagance.
