Bizarre event this was. Happened RIGHT OUTSIDE the hospital and for some reason the first responders was a fully laden fire engine and two police cars. Waste of resources in my opinion.

Could never figure out why they send a fully crewed 6 ton fire truck thundering through traffic to perform basic life saving services. Surely sending a paramedic on a motorcycle is faster, safer and more efficient.

      • 1minute says:

When I was in London I saw that they have motorcycle paramedics. They can get through the traffic a lot easier the a truck, but the people in London also pull over when they hear a siren…

Now that was funny to me Family Man.
Where would these helmeted-blue lighted doods hang out.
        Bus laybuys?

To give Family Man hopefully some usefull info. The reason a fire truck responds to vehicle accident is there is always the risk of a fire starting, remenber, a fire truck carries extracating tools,ie; bolt cutters, air assisted liftintg equipment. Now before someone starts to make any silly comments, I am a retired firefighter, I put in about 30years in the service and have been to quite a few of these type of accidents, so for those that still have questions, WHY, visit the fire station sometime and ask question.

Still doesn’t make sense no matter how many years you were a fireman. In many jurisdictions with far more serious accidents the first responders are EMTS who arrive in an ambulance.

Plus you didn’t mention the real reason that being they were finding something for the fire service to do. Have a friend who was also a firemen for thirty years and is honest.

          • Arthur - Atlanta says:

Even if that was true, your comment “far more serious” would also mean far more damage to the vehicle and person and the need for extraction/jaws of life equipment. I am also a 30 yr veteran firefighter and have come across serious accidents where even with my personal first aid kit, I could not do anything until the fire truck arrives because the person is to ‘wrapped’ up in a twisted wreckage that you cannot get to them to render assistance.
A simple visit to the fire station every year during fire prevention week would answer the questions you ‘think’ you know the answers to.

That is an idea i looked into approx 15 years ago as I thought Bda was an ideal location for that Motorcycle EMS idea.
As with any new idea, there was/is pros and cons but I believe the pros outweigh the cons in Bda’s case.

Waste for sure. I took my 80 year old Mother In Law to an appointment there on Point Finger Road, had to practically beg to get her there through sour faced “guards”. One particular police woman was downright miserable and scary. It was terrible- like we were the guilty. I honestly thought there was a major accident. Police everywhere. At least 5 police cars- detective etc, ambulence, fire truck. Wow. Glad to hear it wasnt serious!

      • Know it all says:

Umm, when someone ends up in ICU, it is serious….nice of you to share your compassion.

    • Let's Think About This... says:

Might it be possible that the ambulances were already out to calls and thus couldn’t get there first? Just a possibility…

  2. Banana Leaf says:

Convenient for treatment at Emergency. Not so for others travelling that stretch later. Hope witnesses speak up.

  3. Oh no says:

Oh no. Hope they are both going to be ok soon.

  4. proud of my job says:

I hope one day for all you negative people complaining about us who have to respond to these scenes to render assistance to those who are sick or injured you don’t find yourself in a position where you need us. Don’t call us do it yourself.
