Delia Basden Resigns From Hospitals Board

April 25, 2014

Former Chief Financial Officer for the Bermuda Hospitals Board [BHB] Delia Basden — who was placed on administrative leave in February 2013 — has resigned with effect from 1st May, 2014.

The BHB said they are “entirely satisfied that Ms. Basden acted properly, appropriately and with all professional integrity”.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Chairman Jonathan Brewin comments: “BHB placed its Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Delia Basden, on administrative leave in February 2013, as recommended by the Auditor General, while a review by the Department of Internal Audit was carried out.

“Following the findings of the review and exhaustive subsequent investigations, BHB is entirely satisfied that Ms. Basden acted properly, appropriately and with all professional integrity.

“Unfortunately, the detailed nature of the review and investigations have taken over year. After this length of time away from BHB, Ms Basden does not feel able to return to her position as CFO with the BHB.

“The BHB regrets that this is so, but sympathizes with Ms Basden’s feelings in this protracted matter. It is with regret that the BHB has accepted Ms Basden’s resignation with effect from 1st May, 2014.

“The BHB wishes Ms Basden all the best in the future and thanks her for her nearly fourteen years of dedicated service to the BHB.

“An Interim Chief Financial Officer, Mr David Thompson, has been in position since March 2013. He will continue in this position, while the Board considers the best long term solution for the post to meet needs of BHB and ensure it continue on the path towards financial sustainability.”

There’s so much mismanagement at that hospital and silence from people in the know and it really irks me when I see that they always want the public to donate to the BHB when the can’t even get their finances in order!
