OBA Meeting To Elect Two Deputy Chairpersons
The One Bermuda Alliance will be holding a Special General Meeting tomorrow [Apr 30], at Party Headquarters on Reid Street, from 10 am to 6 pm, to elect two Deputy Chairpersons.
Running on joint tickets for the positions are Sen. Lynne Woolridge and Pastor Sylvia Hayward-Harris as one team and Karen Magnum and MP Susan Jackson as the other.
A statement from the OBA said, “All current Members are eligible to vote, and have been urged to vote during the course of the day. An Advance Poll for those who are travelling and unable to vote at the SGM was held at Party Headquarters on Thursday 24th April.
“The results of the election will be sent by email to the press as soon as is practical after the close of the polls.
“Karen Magnum is the OBA’s executive secretary. She and her husband own the Magnum Power Force Gym and Diet Center on Front Street. She has helped propel this company from being a small business of 2,000 square feet in 1992 to the Best of Bermuda Gold award winner at 11,000 square feet today.
“Senator Lynne Woolridge has worked for insurance and reinsurance companies in Bermuda and Canada, in the life and health sectors. She is presently the Head of International Life for the Argus Group and a Director of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean.
“Susan Jackson is the OBA MP for Pembroke South West. She is in the fourth generation of Jacksons to commit to public service. Her father was the late Senator Albert Jackson, CBE, JP an Independent who served as Senate President for 12 years. Her mother is the late Louise Jackson, OBE, JP, former Member of Parliament and longtime Shadow Minister for Health and Seniors. Her great grandfather was the second black Bermudian elected to the House of Assembly, in 1887.
“Sylvia Hayward-Harris is the founder of the Women’s Resource Centre. She is an ordained pastor and expert in the field of addictions. She has worked at numerous organisations on the island, including Focus, Fairhaven and Camp Spirit.”
how much will they be paid?
Susan Jackson and Lynne Woolridge both sit as members of the legislature. Jackson, and MP, and Woolridge, a Senator, yet we hear virtually nothing from either of them. What confidence do we have that they will speak to any issues internally??
Karen Magnum and Sylvia Hayward have been OBA spokespersons on facebook for years now and constantly get themselves in trouble by saying the wrong thing or blindly supporting everything the OBA does.
This is hilarious, but sad at the same time.
Am I allowed to split my vote ? I’ll take Susan and Lynn , they’re real Bermudians .According to Toni Daniels , Slyvia and Karen are pretend Bermudians … Or is it the other way around ? Hell , I’m confused ! I think I’ll spoil my ballot . TONI …..HELP ME …
You really didn’t read that piece, did you?
Amazing!
Make the call Mike !
Interesting hear one candidate say they need the position to get close the the community and public………..but isn’t that your job and responsibility already, surely being Deputy Chair will distract you from, THE PUBLIC
I noticed that as well. Since when you need a position to get close to the community. These ppl aren’t serious!
gotta give props to ‘em …. open elections were unheard of until the OBA came along. Say what you will about the chief gombey Cannonier, all members can vote for or against him as premier, unlike the chosen few at Alaska Hall who ignored their elders warnings in favor of ….. oh well you know the rest
A real Bermudian is one who is listed on the Bermuda Status register.
Anything else is meaningless argument.
Case closed.
And I endorse this message !
Lynne Woolridge and Sylvia Hayward Harris! Bermp Bermp Bermp!!!
