Police Search For Mr. Grange Unsuccessful

May 14, 2014

photo may 3 2014Police officers and police dogs conducted a “thorough grid search” in Sandys today [May 14] in an attempt to located missing visitor William Grange, however their efforts were unsuccessful.

Mr. Grange — who suffers from short term memory loss — arrived in Bermuda from Napanee, Canada earlier this month and has not been seen since approximately 10.00pm on May 2nd.

The 67 year old was staying at the Cambridge Beaches Resort in Sandys with his wife, and went out for a walk and subsequently disappeared.

Island-wide searches — which have included the Police, Regiment, Marine Police, Police K-9 Unit, Regimental Boat Troop, Junior Leaders, as well as volunteer divers and members of the community — have failed to locate the Canadian visitor, and earlier this week police said they have to transition the search process into being “reactive”.

In a statement issued today, a police spokesperson said, “As a result of several reported sightings of missing 67 year old Canadian visitor William ‘Bill’ Grange by members of the public in Sandys parish, several police officers as well as police dogs conducted a thorough grid search of the Sandys parish area in an attempt to follow up on those sightings. However, they were unable to locate Mr. Grange.

“Both of Mr. Grange’s sons are aware of today’s efforts to locate their father and the outcome. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the Sandys parish community for their cooperation and officers will continue to respond to any reported sightings.”

I thought for sure Mr. Grange would be found in Sandys. Very sad and frustrating. Where could he have gone? Everyone usually resurfaces. I searched Tom Morres and Ferry Reach on my own with the feeling it was fruital, which is why I always thought he would be found in Sands.

  2. SL says:

Very unfortunate he wasn’t found in Sandys. I know it has been mentioned marine searches in the area around where he disappeared. Not sure of the currents in that area, is it a possibility he could have been taken out to sea? It’s an awful thought but where can he be??

  3. The Dark Knight Returns says:

I’ll say it again, something just isn’t right with this missing person case. This man disappears without a trace in little old Bermuda. I pray the police force has done their do diligence and checked into this man’s financial records, his emails, his cellular phone and any other digital device that may leave a trace or a clue surrounding Mr. Grange’s activity leading up to his trip to Bermuda. I know this may get a lot of dislikes but to continually conduct area searches for this man isn’t enough. Let’s dive into his background. Let’s check his credit card history leading up to and whilst on his trip to Bermuda. And people, I’ll say it again, ” ANY SIGHTINGS OF MR. GRANGE PLEASE KEEP HIM IN SIGHT AND CALL THE POLICE.”

    • nuffin but the truth says:

as much as I hate to say this again,I fear this man has gone overboard and may never be found.I hope I am wrong.

  4. Coffee says:

There’s no reason to continue searching for someone who is not here .
All these posters around this two foot island need to be placed from the Canadian maritimes to the Caribbean and central and South America .

  5. regular Joe says:

Seems like a lot of our emergency services are training in Canada, but their services were required in Bermuda these last two weeks…smh

    • Come Correct says:

The potential 40 people, including training staff, of the Corporals Cadre from the regiment? Who else?

    • Cardine Alice says:

Ask them to bring back some thermal imaging tools from Canada! And sniffer dogs.

  6. MAKE MY DAY says:

I have a feeling that this man well may have stumbled into the ocean or fallen and hit his head on the “rocks” by the sea – fell in and drowned!! There are plenty of rocks up around the Cambridge Beaches area!!

What other possibility could there be for his sudden and abrupt disappearance? He just can’t disappear into “thin air”!!

  7. Raymond Ray says:

It’s a sad situation for all concerned :-( He would have needed to eat right ? Therefore someone must have seen him :-( (That’s if he isn’t already deceased)

  8. OhWell says:

This is a very sad situation. But I can’t help but agree with some of the comments. First off. If my husband has any form of memory loss, it is no way on heavens earth I am going to let him go on a walk 10:00 P.M. at NIGHT by HIMSELF!!!!! Especially if I am in a strange country. Shoot I would not let him go out by himself without me even if he was in his right mind. Something wrong with this pic. I say call it for what it is. Furthermore. Not to bring up bad memories but Dam BPS nor the PUBLIC searched for Rudy like that!!!! I say check Bill’s insurance policy.

  9. lisa says:

I sure hope they find Bill safe and sound but I myself am starting to feel like every1 else that he may have feel hit his head on a rock and now he has been carried out to sea srry to say that but it just does not make any sense as to why he can’t be found our thoughts and prayers go out to all family

  10. Concerned in Canada says:

    to “Oh Well”

You don’t know what you are talking about and that is a terrible comment. The Grange’s are a highly respected family in Napanee and have been for generations. Mr Grange and his Brother have a Law Firm in Napanee from which Mr. Grange had to retire because of his short term memory loss due to a medical condition. For you to be questioning why he would be allowed out walking by himself could have many answers – none of them would be considered negligent. Can’t imagine the pain his family are going through especially his Wife and then you write something like this. I am only hoping that his family doesn’t read your comment because it sick!

    • Kim says:

My apologies for the comments above. Most in Bermuda have been out searching in our areas for Mr. Grange. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

  11. Terry says:

    “Law Firm”.
    Irony.

  12. Blaque says:

I will get crucified for this comment but I am going to say it anyway….

This man has now been missing for 2 weeks. The likelihood that he is still alive is slim to none. That’s the reality of the situation. I find it hard to believe that he is wondering around aimlessly with no food or drink for this length of time. The family and his many friends that have made either a public announcement or commented on the stories all say that he has short term memory loss however it is my impression from what has been said about him that he is a rather intelligent man. I cant fathom that he would not attempt to communicate with someone in his travels to explain that he doesn’t know where he is and needs some assistance. Bermuda isn’t some village in an unexplored rain forest somewhere. People are everywhere. There are really not too many places he can go and not bump into someone during the last 14 days. It is indeed a sad situation however something just doesn’t sit right with me on this case here. I will be the first to retract my statement if he is indeed found alive holed up in some unexplored part of the island but until then I will continue to have my hesitations and a raised eyebrow about the circumstances surrounding this man’s disappearance.
