June 19, 2014

In the first of a series of profiles of contestants, Bernews today spotlights Fredrika Hill, who is representing Smiths Parish in the Miss Bermuda Pageant, which will be held next month.

Ms Hill, an accomplished dancer, is currently attending university at the Boston Conservatory in Massachusetts while working an on-campus job at the school as the House Manager of the Theatre.

When asked why she decided to enter the Miss Bermuda Pageant, Ms Hill said, “I decided to enter the Miss Bermuda Pageant because I wanted to broaden my horizons. I also had always wanted to take part in the pageant, and my family finally convinced me to enter.”

When asked what had been the most enjoyable part of the process so far, Ms Hill said, “The most enjoyable part of the process has been meeting and getting to know the other young ladies. I have made friends I otherwise may have never gotten to know.”

When asked if she was nervous or excited to get on stage for the pageant, Ms Hill said, “Initially I was nervous to get on stage for the pageant, but my nerves have finally turned into excitement and I am looking forward to the night of the pageant.”

When asked who has helped her the most to achieve success along the way, she replied, “My mother and father have helped me achieve all the success along the way; without their love and support I wouldn’t be the confident, strong young woman I am today.”

When asked, should she win, what she planned to do with the exposure that being Miss Bermuda would give her, Miss Hill said, “If I were to win the title of Miss Bermuda, I want to let the world know how beautiful our island and its people are.”

When asked, win or lose, what’s next for her after the pageant, Miss Hill explained that  she will be returning to university to complete her senior year.

“Then the goal is to become a professional dancer in a company, and travel the world dancing,” Miss Hill added.

The 2014 Miss Bermuda Pageant is scheduled to take place on July 6 at the Fairmont Southampton, where reigning queen Katherine Arnfield will crown her successor. Tickets for the event are available at Pulp & Circumstance at Washington Mall, Fabulous Fashions at Heron Bay Plaza, and online at bdatix.bm.
