Around The Island Boat Race ‘D & S’ Class

The Rubis Around the Island Power Boat Race is scheduled to take place on Sunday [Aug 17] with boats taking to the Ferry Reach start line at 2pm. This year’s power boat race is being sponsored by Rubis Energy who have also put up a $10,000 purse for the event.

This coming Thursday the Bermuda Power Boat Association will be having their final sign-up meeting for the race. Some participants have already signed up and here we will look at a line up of the ‘D’ Class and ‘S’ Class entrants with information provided by the Bermuda Power Boat Association.

  • Engine Type: Mercury 280hp – Modifications permitted

Driving a 22 foot Progression powerboat powered by a modified Mercury 280hp motor will be Chad Sutherland along with his soon to be announced co-pilot. Last year Chad and his then co-pilot Mackie Wilson placed second in class and Chad will be looking to improve on that result this year. He has been working tirelessly on the boat to make sure it is in good running order for the race and he will be pushing the boat to the limit to try and achieve top spot.

  • Boat Make: Ocke Mannerfelt – B23
  • Length of Boat: 23 feet
  • Engine Type: Mercury 280hp – Modifications permitted

In D 187 (aka #1 Suspect) we have Stevie Eversley and his co-pilot Brandon Franks that will be racing their 23 foot Ocke Mannerfelt B 23 powerboat with a modified Mercury 280hp engine. Last year the duo obtained first in class and second overall just missing out on first across the line by a mere 30 seconds. They made a valiant effort last year for the top spot and they will definitely be ones to watch for this year as well.

  • Boat Make: Motion
  • Length of Boat: 25 feet
  • Engine Type: Mercury 280hp x 2 – Modifications permitted

Back on the scene we have Shaki Easton along with his co-pilot Derek Seymour racing in their 25 foot Motion powerboat powered by twin modified 280hp engines. The pair have raced in previous years but had some mechanical issues. They are now back with the boat running strong and are now making a come back. This year they are the currently in first place in national points. They will be looking to give it there all to compete for the top spot.

  • Boat Make: Skater
  • Length of Boat: 28 feet
  • Engine Type: Mercury 280hp x 2 – Modifications permitted

In S 20 we have Steven Bridges and Aaron Sims in their 28 foot Skater powerboat powered by twin modified 280hp engines. The duo have raced together for a few years now in this boat and are highly competitive in their class. Last year they were having a good run for the title but a mechanical issue arose and took them out of the race. They will be pushing for the boat to the limit and then some looking to be the first ones across the line.

  • Co Pilot: Lavon Seymour
  • Boat Number: S 57
  • Boat Make: Predator
  • Length of Boat: 30 feet
  • Engine Type: Mercury 280hp x 2 – Modifications permitted

This year Kenneth Desilva and or Cameron Harris along with Lavon Seymour will be piloting S 57 their 30 foot Predator powerboat powered by twin modified 280hp engines. They have all raced this boat together in the past and have had good success. This year they are expected to be competing for the top spot and will be pushing hard to be the ones that claim first place.
