BTA has partnered with the Fairmont Hotels, to support the show, both logistically and financially as it films ‘judges houses’ using iconic Bermudian locations including the Fairmont hotels as a backdrop to the popular show. Currently in its 11th series, The X Factor is one of the UK’s most talked about entertainment show and will see veteran Simon Cowell return to the judges panel joined by singer Cheryl Cole, Spice Girl Mel B, and renowned music manager Louis Walsh.

Arriving on island is The X Factor Louis Walsh, mentor to this year’s ‘groups category’, which consists of 6 budding superstar groups. Walsh is rarely seen outside of his Irish hometown for previous ‘Judges Houses’ and said: “Not only have I got the strongest category this year but by far the best destination. Bermuda has been on my to do list for quite some time so this is a trip of a lifetime.”

Bill Hanbury, CEO, BTA said, “Hosting The X Factor Judges Houses is a fantastic platform to introduce a new generation to Bermuda. Bermuda will match the excitement of the show with the island’s energy and inspiring locations.

“The X Factor broadcast will showcase Bermuda to nearly 10 million viewers in the UK, our top European feeder market. This is one of the many initiatives BTA has in place for Bermuda to reach its tourism goals.”

The X Factor has spawned numerous worldwide music artists including One Direction and Leona Lewis, who together have sold more than 150 million records to date. The show will broadcast in the UK across ITV & ITV2 from September to December.

This is really exciting,,, now we just need to find out where our Beloved Louie will be hanging out :)

  2. Well Done says:

10 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at along with the fact that we are already guaranteed to host America Cup events!

Well done to all you helped attract these events to our shores.

    • haha says:

      The OBA did…

      • Ian says:

        yawn…

        • LiarLiar says:

The OBA created the BTA much to your opposition and hooting and hollering. And the BTA brought in the X Factor. Not too long of a reach.

If you are unhappy about such events we can always send Wayne Furbert to sing for our tourism supper at baseball games again as it worked out so well. Or bring in Beyonce for a $1mn to entertain locals and about 5 tourists. Ahh the good ole’ days.

          • Ian says:

            again… yawn

          • Sad says:

I personally missed the highly successful faith based tourism initiative

            • Toodle-oo says:

If that isn’t one of the best attempts at sarcasm ever posted online you better not ever let your identity be known.
Because there will never be any business person in Bermuda that will want to team up with you.

              • Heavens says:

My guess, Toodle-loo, is that no business person would want you either!

                • Toodle-oo says:

Why ? Quite the opposite I suspect , because I and a whole lot of others see it for the failure and kickback that it was .

Sounds like you’re in the same ranks as ‘sad’ assuming they weren’t being sarcastic .

          • Sad says:

I personally miss the highly successful faith based tourism initiative

  3. Watcher says:

I await the PLP response telling us how unhappy they are with this good news and great exposure……..

    • Double D says:

Well both shows are obviously anti-Bermudian…anyone can see it…if you want to

    • Shut up says:

Why does UBP, PLP, OBA, BIU, KFC have to do with anything. Just be happy for the island as a whole A$ Hole.

      • Tricks are for Kids says:

        Without out fail…
There’s always those persons that bring politics into it….please explain how this article is political…#illwait

      • Ian says:

Thank you! Some common sense. Crickey you can tell who the paid OBA bloggers are huh

        • hmmm says:

          Says Ian (Mr PLP)

          • Ian says:

Hilarious considering I regretfully voted for the OBA last election – voted for their surrogate Premier anyway.

            • Heavens says:

Dude, if you have regrets about NOT voting PLP last time ’round, you need your head examined.

        • gzibsv says:

The OBA are paying? Were do I sign up…

    • Maybe says:

Nah, that’s the way the oba act. PLP support good ideas and events.

  4. Archie says:

Ok, need to get some singing lessons! Great news!

  5. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

    will any Bermudians be singing?

    • This isn't an audition says:

By the time contestants have made it to the Judges Houses they’ve already made it thru the audition stage so unless one of the groups in question is Bermudian, no such luck.

  6. Cow Polly says:

It appears that we’ve scored a winner with Bill Hanbury. Congrats to him and all his colleagues over at the Tourism Authority.

  7. keith says:

Fantastic, let’s hope no one needs to catch a bus!

    • Bermudian says:

      or the ferry

      • Raymond Ray says:

Before putting down tools of any sort do first consider how advantageous it will be to everyone if the event goes off without any glitches…The free worldwide exposure is worth a fortune and shouldn’t be taken for granted. I personally believe the Unions aren’t going to attempt “putting a stick into the wheel” of this up-coming event due to the fact it will hinder many local families in more than one way.

  8. hmm says:

Someone should try and get a bermudian to sing on the show even if it is while they are waiting for a performer to get on stage would be great exposure for a few singers here.

  9. Sun says:

This sounds like great news, but I do have my reservations.

Can we please have a statement from the Ministry of Immigration to confirm all documents; i.e. work visa, are in order. We do not want another situation on our hands as we did with the film crew recently in Bermuda on the Rebecca Middleton murder.

  10. Yeseye says:

I’m in Malaga Spain. They have it right
Cheap and cheerful all personnel so friendly. Would come back in a heart beat.
And locals couldn’t give two shites about that gov did this and that gov did that.
Bermuda is NOT another world any more.

  11. Anonymous says:

Is anyone missing the fact that this is being paid by the Bermudian public? I hope we get the return on this. All I see it as money we don’t have being spent on luxurious vacations for those who can already afford it.

    • Hmmm says:

Contestants striving to be succesfrul in the entertainment business through X Factor cannot all afford to come here. So please stop making up nonsense. It is putting us in the minds and desires of millions of people. Whereas before we weren’t even on the radar.

      • HBG says:

Thank you for this response…. These are still young kids striving for success putting themselves through major ups & downs being in Bermuda is a fantastic opportunity for them & yes they probably would never have got there if not for winning their places to judges houses….I might add one group has my SON in it & he & everyone else feel fortunate to be on your beautiful island..so if you happen to see them out & about please be nice as they are really lovely kids all of them
        them

    • trulytruly says:

That is exactly what they are supposed to be doing! Finding exciting opportunities, yes and paying for the exposure they give Bermuda, to 10 million viewers in a location, the UK, with a direct flight. Perfect. Thanks BTA and Mr Hanbury. Anonymous above hasn’t a clue how marketing works, so ignore their …. comments.

  12. Conservative says:

Yawn, and PGA was beamed to how many households?

    Any new visitors after PGA?

can low income households who watch XFactor on ITV in UK afford to travel to Bermuda after they have saved a pound a week for their annual TV licence fee?

Will wait to see the flurry of new arrivals post Xfactor – we need tourists Mr CEO not advertising!!!!

OK OBAers proceed to slaughter me!!

    • Double D says:

      You get tourists via advertising.

If not then why did we need a DoT and now a BTA?

  13. Terra says:

I want to be involved with the show! Who can I talk to about that??

  14. WhatHeSaid says:

This is wonderful! However, I wonder how their film crew got permission to film, and the Middleton film crew were denied.??

    • JJ says:

I’m sure they went through the correct procedures to obtain permits for filming…unlike the crew who attempted to film about middleton…

  15. TickTockBda says:

They should have auditions for Bermudians as well, this seems like a really good idea, however, there is always something we may be missing………..

    Guess we shall see!

  16. animallover says:

I think this is fabulous for all Bermuda. You never know what will come of this, and this is why the BTA are trying new things. Stop complaining, because that’s all some of you do. Probably because you don’t like the fact that the BTA thought of it! Give them a break, they are trying.

    • Rich says:

The BTA didn’t think of it…The producers of the show, like all shows, look for various sites to shoot and Bermuda happen to be the perfect location for this particualr episode.

So their people called our PR agency-people and said, let’s have lunch and they did.Over a light lunch they pulled together the framework of a deal were Bermuda would provide XXZ in exchange for the shoot to be done on our shores.

Shooting segments of TV shows or movies in Bermuda is not new. At some point we will all just be happy for little successes such as these and not get so caught up on who to credit or discredit.

  17. Terry says:

So much negativity from bloggers from Bermuda and people that have moved away.
At this rate we are totally screwed.
