Zeiko Lewis Scores In Boston College Draw
The Boston College men’s soccer team opened the 2014 season with a 1-1 draw against Iona on Friday evening [Aug 29] at Boston University’s Nickerson Field, with Bermuda’s Zeiko Lewis scoring the lone goal for Boston College.
Lewis, a sophmore, scored the Boston College goal in the 72nd minute off a free kick and then an own goal was the equalizer seven minutes later.
The school’s match report said, “The Eagles controlled the pace for most of the game, owning a 22-6 lead in shots and a 12-3 advantage in corners. Iona goalkeeper Julian Petrello had to make seven saves.
“BC had the only chances to strike in the first 45 minutes. The Eagles spent a lot of time in the offensive third and had three consecutive corner kicks in the early going, but only got one shot off in that span. With 14 minutes left in the half, sophomore Isaac Normesinu set up Lewis nicely but his shot was stopped.
“Iona’s best chance offensively came seven minutes into the second half when Marcos Nunez fed a wide open Ignacio Maganto in front of net. He went one-on-one with junior Alex Kapp, but Kapp made a tremendous save to keep the match scoreless.
Lewis broke the tie in the 72nd minute after a BC player was taken down in the offensive third. He set up the free kick on the left side from about 20 yards out and sent a perfectly placed shot into the back of the net to put the Eagles on top.
“The game was equalized in the 79th minute when Maganto was making a run down the left side. He fired a cross into the box near the end line and a BC defender attempted to clear it, but the ball found the back of the BC net to tie the game.”
