I would like to hear what government and sporting groups are doing to capitalize on the publicity from AC to launch the island as a premier destination for international sailing/water sports events going forward.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Guess you have never heard of the Newport Beruda Race, The Marion Bermuda Reace, The Gold Cup, the numerous international sailing events that Bermuda both hosts & takes part in overseas, & has done so for many years.

Government has never been much involved in sailing. Wonder why? Maybe it is because of non involvement by Government that sailing has been so successful.

And no, I am not a sailor. I can easily count how many times I have been sailing.

Often it is best that Government simply get out of the way & let those on the front line of a sport deal with it.

      • Micro says:

A very small number of events that don’t bring sizable crowds…

        • serengeti says:

Each one attracts at least several hundred. So it depends what you mean by ‘sizable’.

        • sandgrownan says:

Demonstrably untrue. In fact, those three events with the addition of The World Rugby Classic bring the biggest crowds to Bermuda on a consistent basis. Year in, year out.

    • hmm2 says:

Who holds a town hall meeting for 1 hour? And where is Heritage Wharf?

Who holds a town hall meeting for 1 hour? And where is Heritage Worship Centre?

  2. Raymond Ray says:

For those of us that don’t know, where the heck is Heritage Worship Centre? I would love to attend. :-(

  3. Andrew Simons says:

I hope that the island bids to host the Moth Worlds in 2017 or beyond. The International Moth is a fast, single-handed, sailing hydrofoil dinghy. Many of the sailors coming to the island for the America’s Cup sail Moths to learn more about racing foiling boats.

The 2015 Moth Worlds in Australia attracted 150 sailors. The 2016 Worlds will be held in Japan.

Publicity from the America’s Cup can remind the international sailing community that the island is suitable for fleet racing almost year-round.

  4. Concerned says:

I wonder if they will address the issue of hiking up rental prices? I already know of two families whose landlords demanded an increase in rent of 25% or they had to leave, because they had America’s Cup tenants willing to pay a premium.

I’m actually extremely concerned that many locals/expats (including myself) are going to be completely priced out of the market, and find that there is a lack of supply of suitable housing.

The America’s Cup is two and a half years away, and already landlords are jacking up the rents. I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us.

  5. swing voter says:

nice choice of venue….politicians don’t u love him very transparent…

  6. Young Bermudian says:

Will this be streamed…I would love to be able to view this online after the event. I won’t be able to be there.

  7. bagheera says:
