Luminaria Sales & Display At Relay For Life
Participants in the Relay for Life are encouraged to stop by the event’s official Luminaria Tent this year to dedicate luminaria to loved ones they’ve lost to cancer, or those whose fight continues.
As the event’s Luminaria sales & display hosts and sponsor, PwC Bermuda will have a large selection of arts and crafts supplies on hand for participants to create and personalise their luminaria bags. Paper, lighted luminaria bags will be available to purchase at the tent for a donation.
Dozens of PwC volunteers will assist the event’s organizers in placing hundreds of luminaries around the track at the National Sports Centre in what promises to be a beautiful and inspiring evening display and ceremony. The bags will stay in place on the track until dawn.
The global Relay For Life, which has become one of the largest fundraising events for cancer in the world, takes place May 29 to 30 in Bermuda.
“This year we have more than 80 volunteers from PwC Bermuda taking part in the second annual Relay for Life. They’ve signed up as relay team members and/or they’re volunteering to help manage the Luminaria tent and display,” PwC Bermuda managing director Scott Watson-Brown said.
“I am grateful to see such enthusiasm among our employees for this important global event. PwC is proud to be part of it, helping to raise funds to support the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s radiation therapy initiative.”
Relay For Life of Bermuda is a chance for the community to come together to recognize and celebrate those who have overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Relay For Life of Bermuda is organized by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre alongside a local volunteer committee.
Teams get together and fundraise for the months leading up to the event. On the event day, teams participate in a relay-style walk or run, challenging themselves to stay on the track overnight. They are invited to stay for the whole event and camp overnight, enjoy the fun activities and attend the moving ceremonies. Organisers say 95% of the funds raised will remain in Bermuda.
