Woman Denies Smuggling Cannabis Into Prison
In Magistrates Court this morning [May 18], a 24-year-old woman denied charges alleging she smuggled cannabis into Westgate Correctional Facility.
Ms Shamaine Kidd pleaded not guilty to being in an Increased Penalty Zone, which was the Westgate Correctional Facility, and possessing cannabis and cannabis resin intended for supply.
Ms Kidd also plead not guilty to attempting to convey prohibited items into Westgate Correctional Facility.
All the alleged offences were alleged to have occurred on 13 January 2015.
The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that the amounts alleged to be involved were 19.95 grams of cannabis and 3.59 grams of cannabis resin.
Magistrate Tokunbo set trial for August 2015 and granted Ms Kidd bail of $10,000 with one surety. The Magistrate also ordered that Ms Kidd must report twice weekly to Hamilton Police Station.
