Dominique Mayho On Bermuda Day Cycling Race

Record champion Dominique Mayho will return to the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race on Friday [May 22] after a two-year absence.
Mayho, a six-time winner, missed the 2024 race because of overseas commitments and last year competed in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby for the first time.
He said he is approaching this year’s race with a different mindset and tipped VT Construction team-mate Jackson Langley as the favourite.
“I’ve rediscovered my love for cycling,” Mayho told Bernews.
“I don’t get out as much as I’d like to as I have a one-year-old [Mason], who keeps me busy.
“I’ve tried to do all the local races this year and I’m having fun.
“It takes a bit longer to get fit these days. I don’t train as much as I’d like, but I still have a decent sprint.
“I’m feeling good for Friday.”
Mayho, who has represented Bermuda at the Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games, described the race the highlight of the local cycling calendar.
“It’s a special race,” he said. “I always wanted to win it as a junior and then I stepped up to the elite race.
“Even when I was overseas racing, I’d try and watch the live stream.
“I love being part of it. There’s no race like it in Bermuda. It feels great coming through Front Street at the finish.”
The 32-year-old said he was pleased to see younger riders making an impact in local racing.
“It’s all juniors these days – it’s crazy,” he added.
“Jackson Langley is the strongest rider on the island. Luckily, he’s my team-mate. I hope he can break away and take it – I’d like him to win.
“Dylan Eiselt has also been beating me this year – it’s not fun losing to these juniors!
“Jacob Wright and Ollie Hayward are coming back from boarding school.
“It should be a fun race to watch. Hopefully, me, Jackson and Jacob can come up with a plan and execute it.
“I try to help them as much as I can in terms of race tactics and avoiding the mistakes I made.
“I hope I help develop them in some way. They seem to listen to me at the moment.”
