Two Boats Break Free From Their Moorings

June 27, 2015

Two boats broke free from their moorings this week, with their respective owners able to retrieve them thanks to reports made by members of the public.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 9.10pm, Bermuda Radio received a report from a member of the public that the 32ft power craft “Pickle Onion” had broken free from its moorings in Ferry Reach.

“The owner of the vessel, who had recently secured the boat to this mooring, made arrangements to re-secure the vessel and make good the mooring. This highlights the need to ensure mooring chains, bridles etc are all in good order especially during hurricane season.

“On Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 12.05pm, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a report from a member of public advising the 30ft Sailing Vessel “Raven” was adrift in the vicinity of Two Rock Passage having broken free from her moorings.

“A good Samaritan kindly offered assistance and towed the vessel to a secure location by Pitt’s Bay. Bermuda Radio contacted the owner of the vessel who retrieved and secured it accordingly. Once again reminding the need to ensure moorings are in good condition, especially during hurricane season.”

Another reason why you should read and if you don’t understand ask questions. What makes you think these people shouldn’t own boats – you don’t know the circumstances.
