The Cabinet Office advised today [Nov 30] that Premier Michael Dunkley is currently in the UK participating in the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council Meetings [OT JMC].

“The OT JMC takes place from Nov. 30 – Dec. 3. Premier Dunkley will join other OT leaders as well as Cabinet Ministers and senior Civil Servants from Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Ascension Island, Tristan Da Cunha, St Helena and Pitcairn at this week’s JMC meeting,” a spokesperson said.

“While in London, the Premier will also engage in meetings with OT leaders, Foreign & Commonwealth Office representatives and meet with recognised business entities such as Lloyd’s of London.‎‎

“The Premier will also conduct UK media outreach and attend a media breakfast sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA].

‎”It is anticipated that there will be a lengthy agenda for this week’s OT JMC with issues such as economic diversification and development, regional border security, global standards of financial regulation accountability and transparency and environmental sustainability being discussed.‎‎

“The Cabinet Office also advised that as has been the tradition, while in London the Premier alongside the Government of Bermuda London Office will host a networking reception for Bermudians living, working and studying at the University level in the UK. The reception will be held this evening [November 30th].

“The public will recall that this past July, Premier Dunkley hosted several of the OT leaders at the pre-JMC meeting. The Pre-JMC Meetings are a precursor for the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council meeting which is hosted by the UK Government in London.‎‎

“The JMC process is under the remit of the London Office which works in cohesion with Overseas Territory representative offices based in the UK to ensure Bermuda’s overall interests are upheld.”
