Preserve Marriage Remove Donation Page

February 22, 2016

The Preserve Marriage website appears to have removed the page soliciting donations from their website, and the Charities Commission has confirmed that “as Preserve Marriage were neither a registered charity nor did it have a temporary fundraising licence, the group could not solicit funds from the public.”

The screenshot below is of the page that was previously available on the Preserve Marriage website which now goes to a broken link.

Following a request for clarification placed two weeks ago to the Registrar General, a reply this morning stated, “The Charities Commission considered the matter of Preserve Marriage soliciting funds from the public.

“It was the commissioners’ view that, as Preserve Marriage were neither a registered charity nor did it have a temporary fundraising licence, the group could not solicit funds from the public.

“The Charities Commission communicated this view to the principals who accepted the concerns raised and have acted accordingly.”

Whoever talks about humanitarian, that is why I only give to really needed

  2. Its me again says:

They need a go fund me account.

I think they have been wrongfully targeted, there are s*** tons of organizations who regularly solicit the publc who arent charitites.

  3. Pravda says:

Global Advocacy of American Anti-LGBT Extremists Exposed

There is a network of American extremists who work tirelessly to undercut LGBT people around the world at every turn. They spew venomous rhetoric, outrageous theories, and discredited science. It’s time to take action.

    • Daylily says:

HRC is a hates rights campaign that spends a lot of money pretending to stand for human rights. They seem to only be concerned with LGBT adult human rights, not children’s rights to a mom & a dad.

These people have mastered catchy emotional phrases like “Human Rights”, in an attempt to guilt people into silence. Telling anyone who holds an opinion opposing their agenda as hateful.

The truth is HRC is about proselytizing and advancing the SSM/LGBT agenda. They will crush anyone and everyone in their way. Your post proves that. The link you gave us essentially the HRC’s latest hit list. They brag about their 1.5 million world wide members. Not exactly the weak and disenfranchised minority you claim.

      • Mike Hind says:

        “Human Rights” isn’t a catchphrase.

Maybe that’s the problem with your thinking. You think it is.

        • Daylilly says:

Human Rights to SSM is a deceptive notion. The European Court of Human Rights has repeatedly said same sex marriage is not a human right. The argument is for the benefits of family life.

  4. Right for the job? says:

Interesting, as Preserve Marriage’s chairman Dr. Bassett is on the Board of Directors for The Centre on Philanthropy, according to their website. He of all people should have known better.

    • wahoo says:

      say what?

    • Family Man says:

Just goes to show what credibility their Board has.

    • hmmm says:

If that is true, he needs to resign and NOW !!!!!!!!

    • Legalgal says:

      He must resign immediately then.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Don’tcha know that churches by some devine self given right, are exempt from laws & rules that apply to the ordinary person or orgaisation?

      • Daylily says:

Ohhhh! So now Truth Wins. Now everyone is concerned with rules. When “Love Wins” sent out a press release for people to show up and protest to the properly organized Preserve Marriage demonstration, rules didn’t matter. They had no authority from anyone whatsoever.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

Question remains is how long have they had that up, and how much money did they illegally collect. Think they will come clean??

  5. Mike Hind says:

Amazing that they claim to want the public to know the truth about this debate yet never actually debate nor use the truth.
Misinformation and evasion is neither truth nor debate.

    • blankman says:

For an organization that claims they want the public to know the truth they’ve been very secretive about the source of their funding.

  6. Happy says:

they need to clean up their own houses before judging others he who has not sinned cast the first stone :)

  7. aceboy says:

How very Christian of them to solicit funds without the adequate legal right to do so.

What a good example of an upstanding moral organization they are…they should be telling us how to live our lives to ensure we get into the Kingdom when we breathe our last.

    • Keep Praying says:

Well Aceboy, since you would like to know, here’s what you need to do to be sure you so not slip into a lost eternity when you breathe your last breath:
      1. Recognize and admit that you are a sinner and need to be saved.

      2. Pray and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sins and ask Him to come into your life.

      3. If you do this with all sincerity, you will be prepared for eternity.

EVERY ONE of us will die at some point. It PAYS to be ready BEFORE you breathe that last breath.

      God bless you.

  8. Cow Polly says:

I hope they give any monies they have received back to the donators or to a worthwhile registered charity like the Salvation Army who just lost $50K in the budget. It’s the Christian thing to do wouldn’t you say?

  9. hmmm says:

Wow , I also wonder if the church goers who fund the church are aware their funds are being funneled into the hands of this group.

Where is the accountability of this group? If they are not registered, they need to pay tax on their revenue.

  10. SNS says:

    Funds for what??!!

    • hmmm says:

      To get paid perhaps????

      • Seriously? says:

Get paid for? Doing something they are voluntarily doing, to keep people from having the right to live their own lives? How about they dig into their church funds to fund such!

      • SNS says:

To get paid for what? To counsel all the people who are filing for divorce? They call themselves preserve marriage but they’re only focused on preventing marriage between certain people. That’s not preservation, that’s prevention. They should be focused on helping families stay together if they want to “preserve” marriage.

        • Daylily says:

You haven’t a clue what your talking about. You have no idea what the group or its members have focused on for years. SSM people say they are fighting for human rights but they are only fighting for an agenda opposing Traditional Marriage and opposing the rights of children.

That’s why they listed Dr. Robert Oscar Lopez on the HRC Hates Rights Campaign website. He is the adult child of a SSC, who says that he was raised in a loving home but was robbed of the right to a father. Dr. Lopez says it’s a generational crime against humanity.

He has been ostracized by HRC, the so-called human rights group as if desiring a father and advocating for children is some how not also a human right.

          • Mike Hind says:

He’s also been a speaker at conferences held by hate groups… But let’s not let truth and facts get on the way of your agenda, “daylily”. You never have before.

          • Mike Hind says:

Oh, and SSM supporters don’t oppose “Traditional Marriage”.
No in any way, shape or form.
No one has spoken against “Traditional Marriage”.

They just don’t think that “Traditional” should be the ONLY kind of marriage.

This is yet another lie from you, “daylily”

  11. Ann says:

Wow! And these people call themselves Christians, What did they need the money for????? This is off the charts gross in my mind. Always count on the Church to want money, that’s why I stopped going to Church and decided to just be a decent human!

  12. I heart 441 says:

I’m going to assume, most of the bloggers that have left a comment above me are part of Bermuda’s LGBT community. I’m also convinced more then half of them are not Bermudian. On that note, how would you feel if Bermudians where to go and reside in your home country and petitioned to change the way of life in your country of birth?

    I accept Dislikes and Likes!

    • Ann says:

      A. I am not gay
      B. I am Bermudian
      C. I heart 441 you make no sense!

      • aceboy says:

I am also not gay and 100% Bermudian.

I am not part of any group on this issue.

You are basing your assumptions on your own bias.

        • hmmm says:

          I am not gay
          I AM Bermudian
          I support equality.

Laws constantly evolve or we would still be segregated and women would not be voting.

Laws were changed for the betterment of our people !

Also Gay and Lesbian people are your brothers and sisters…they didn’t turn up and try to change laws…they are Bermudian, stop oppressing your people.

      • I heart 441 says:

        I said “most” not all.

        • jt says:

What should we assume about you?

        • No Hate says:

The world would be a much better place if people didn’t make things up and believe them to be fact.

      • Right for the job? says:

I am not gay and I am Bermudian. I do happen to support honesty though, which PM is not being.

    • Seriously? says:

You mean like how Bermudians load up their children and go live in England off of the system???

    • Come Correct says:

It’s best to never make assumptions, you’ll look like an a$$ and be shunned by an up.

    • Former Union Member says:

Assume is a very dangerous word. Someone once explained it to me as it makes an A$$ out of U and Me.

For the record, I am Bermudian, not gay and happily married.

    • Keep Praying says:

Well said! That is generally the case with the bloggers and it was also the case with the counter-demonstrators on the Cabinet grounds. I could not imagine going to someone else’s country and publicly demonstrating against the government on how they should run their affairs.

      • hmmm says:

You keep praying for hate, as you are a hateful person. How could you try and make people considered lesser than you.

God will judge you for your hate.

        • Keep Praying says:

I am not praying for hate and I am certainly not trying to “make people considered lesser” than me.

Just make sure you are in good standing when God judges YOU.

          • hmmm says:

Of course you are praying for hate and for people to be considered less than you, you don’t even realize what you are doing ! SMH

I’m trying to save you !

            • Keep Praying says:

Well clearly your mind cannot be changed about what I am praying for, so I won’t waste any more of my time.

I’m already saved, thanks. (I pray that you are as well.)

      • Ed Case says:

You make the huge mistake of thinking white people are all foreign. At least that is what I am assuming. You seem to label all those people as foreign so unless you checked their papers individually you must have taken your narrow point of view and shown your true prejudice by judging people by the colour of their skin. You are ignorant and should be ashamed. I guess we all look the same to you as well huh?

        • Keep Praying says:

“I Heart 411″ never said ALL.

But I’m glad you brought up the point that the majority of people there were white – and if you removed the non-born Bermudians and the first-generation Bermudians, there would probably have been just a handful. What does that say to you about who is driving this?

Call me ignorant and prejudiced if you like but you surely can’t call me blind.

          • Mike Hind says:

How is being ignorant and prejudiced better than being blind?

This is something you’re proud of?

            • Keep Praying says:

Clearly, you find it more satisfying to ignore the point that I was making and focus on the unnecessary name-calling. That tends to be done quite often by the SSM proponents. But I guess if that’s all you’ve got “in your bag”, you might as well use it! Sad.

              • Mike Hind says:

The point you were making was sickeningly racially biased and bigoted. That was abundantly clear and I didn’t think it was worth mentioning.
You very obviously look at “non born Bermudians” and “first generation Bermudians” as somehow less Bermudian and thus dismissible… You said as much.
This is detestable. “I heart 441”’s point was resoundingly shown to be wrong, yet you support it. That is, in fact, both ignorant and prejudiced. But at least you aren’t blind…

As for ignoring things and talking about other things, that tactic is very solidly in your side’s playbook. Accusing SSM supporters of it is nothing more than a baseless, false glass-house argument.

              • Mike Hind says:

As for what I have “in my bag”?

I have questions that you cannot answer honestly without exposing your true agenda.

I have the courage of my convictions.

                I have honesty.

                I have compassion.

                I have love.

                I have equality.

                I have the truth.

      • Time saver says:

Again, I’m not Bermudian, but I’m proud of the Bermudians that have been demonstrating against the police shooting of unarmed black males in the USA.

      • Quinton Berkely Butterfield says:

You mean like the tourists that wore a bridal dress and tux to support PM?

        • hmmm says:

They supported marriage ! They also supported equal rights !

          Draw your own conclusion.

    • Rita Realistic says:

British and US passport mean anything?!

    • Sam says:

You’re clearly an entitled public school graduate who has no knowledge of world affairs or the concept of human rights.

Same sex marriage has absolutely nothing to do with your way of life. You have missed the mark just like PM do on a regular basis.

Regardless of the legality of same sex marriage your children will come in contact with homosexuality here and abroad. Same sex couples will raise children both locally and abroad.

Not only that but you will have to get used to local policies reflecting global changes.

Welcome to the world, maybe you should travel and educate yourself.

      • Sam says:

Oh by the way, I’m born and raised Bermudian and not at all a member of the LGBT community. Just a decent human being.

        • Daylily says:

Your prejudicial comments sound more arrogant than decent. You are on a very high horse. While you are there, perhaps it is you who should travel the world to the 172 countries that still uphold marriage and many others who were robbed of a vote because of well placed judiciary.

Many well educated scientists, and intellectuals know the truth about marriage.

      • I heart 441 says:

Actually I’m college educated( private college) with two degrees. I’ve also lived outside of Bermuda for over 10 years. So you where saying…….

    • Time saver says:

      I am not gay.
      I am not Bermudian.

I pay my taxes and am free to have an opinion on this or any other matter.

    • Mike Hind says:

      Bermudian.
      Straight.
      Married.

      Your assumption is wrong.

    • Daylily says:

I heart 441, I agree & many of the people who signed the petition for SSM included non-Bermudians according to the people who presented it to the government.

  13. Ed Case says:

While preserve Bermuda has agreed to take down their fund raising, there are still certain things they will insist on:

    1. the “fruit and vegetable” areas of supermarkets will have to be renamed.
    2. “Mince” can not be sold unless called by a different name
    3. The bakery areas will also be affected since “tarts” are an insult to promiscuous women everywhere.

There is no decision yet on breakfast food, but “puffed wheat” may have to be banned. Also bananas and crossants will have to be straight.

“Any food that is bent in any way is clearly unacceptable”.

“We won’t rest until every gay related term is eliminated from our shops everywhere, we will literally stamp it out”.

    • Daylily says:

uh, no that’s the HRC hates rights campaign agenda that has been made and cookie cut to suit Bermuda.

      1. Bully Dr. Nicholas Cummings, APA to write resolution reclassifying sexual orientation without a shred of scientific data. – done.
      2. Spread the news like gospel and throw out the APA’s Leona Tyler principle. Pretend it’s science. – done
      3. Gain legitimate human rights. – done
      4. Gain special rights to marriage but pretend they are human rights – ???
      5. Instill SS agenda and representatives in every facet of society -???
      6. Destroy and put anyone who doesn’t agree with SSM in the closet – ???

  14. Rita Realistic says:

Ah how amusing they are bless their poisonous hearts. It’s laughable ” to ensure a few don’t choose for the many” er hello?! You ARE the few trying to choose for the many! I guess running a cult and a hate campaign is getting pricey.

  15. No Hate says:

Why don’t you use the donations you wanted to put into this hate campaign into taking your wife/husband out to dinner to work on your own heterosexual marriage? With the divorce rate as it is I think we could all use a little extra support there.

Those is glass houses shouldn’t throw rocks. Work on your own marriage. Don’t worry about those of others.
