Olympics: Tre Houston Finishes 6th In 200m Heat
Bermuda’s Tre Houston made his Olympic debut today, placing 6th in the 200m heats, crossing the line in a time of 20.85.
Houston, 26, was running in lane five in the seventh of 10 heats. Only the top two athletes from each heat automatically advance to the next round with the next four fastest times also moving on to one of the coveted spots.
Houston’s time will not see him advance, however his appearance at these Games marks the first time in 20 years Bermuda has been represented in the 200m.
Nery Brenes from Costa Rica won the heat in a time of 20.20, Churandy Martina from the Netherlands was 2nd in 20.29, Brendon Rodney from Canada finished 3rd in 20.34, Davide Manenti from Italy was 4th in 20.51, Gambia’s Adama Jammeh was 5th in 20.55, Houston was 6th in a time of 20.85, while Fabrice Dabla from Togo placed 7th in a time of 21.63.
Defending gold medalist Usain Bolt of Jamaica eased up at the line and won the ninth heat in 20.28.
Houston is part of Bermuda’s eight-strong team that is representing the island in five different sports, joining rower Shelley Pearson, long jumper Tyrone Smith, swimmers Julian Fletcher and Rebecca Heyliger, sailors Cameron Pimentel and Ceci Wollmann, and triathlete Flora Duffy.
