Column: PLP C#26 Candidate Neville Tyrrell

December 16, 2016

[Opinion column written by Constituency 26 PLP by-election candidate Neville Tyrrell]

As the by-election nears, I would like to take this opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks to the people of Constituency 26 Warwick South Central. You have welcomed us into your homes, you’ve shared your hopes and dreams and together we have found much in common and much to work toward together.

With all that has happened in our country over the past 4 years this election is very important as it provides the people of Warwick South Central with an opportunity to send a clear and resounding message that our country is headed in the wrong direction. Too many Bermudians have been left behind. A new, more inclusive approach is needed.

The PLP has learned a lot from our time in opposition. We’ve reconnected with our fellow Bermudians and possess an even greater understanding of the unfinished business facing our country.

Live stream replay of Mr Tyrrell’s candidate announcement last month:

We understand that Bermuda cannot rise as a country or as an economy if we leave Bermudians behind. We insist that Bermudian hard work and discipline should be rewarded with the opportunity to be hired, advance and prosper in our own country.

We recognize that we must be humble, hard-working and perhaps most importantly, never lose focus on who is most important; the people that elect us.

I have offered myself as the PLP candidate for C26 because I fervently believe that we have the vision, the team and the ability to move our country forward, while leaving no one behind.

If successful in this by-election, one of my main priorities would be to highlight the critical need for jobs and act as a voice for the many Bermudians who want to work, yet today find themselves unemployed or underemployed.

As a senior myself, I hope to be able to act as a vehicle to encourage my peers to come forward and share their proven knowledge and various experience by mentoring our youth.

Together, with my PLP colleagues, we will offer solutions to those issues challenging our seniors who are having to manage their limited resources and who have been forced to carry an unacceptable amount of the burden of shared sacrifice in recent years.

The PLP C 26 team will also get to work on addressing the overgrown trees across the community, the repair of our roads and each of the many issues that you, the people of Warwick South Central have brought to our attention as we have visited you on the doorstep.

I now encourage and remind all registered voters of Warwick South Central C26 to come out on the 20th December and let your voice be heard!

Thank You!

-Neville Tyrrell

  1. San George says:

Send a message #26. Craig Can. to the rescue.

  2. Terry says:

“country is headed in the wrong direction”.

    Merry Christmas Bermuda.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Wonder if he was able to say that with a straight face? Despite the PLP’s best efforts at derailing everything the OBA has done the Island has a positive feel to it not experienced in years.

  3. Point boy says:

That’s laughable. Headed in the wrong direction? Do you even bother to educate yourself before spewing your ignorance?

This Island, (Our) island is making more progress under the OBA Government than I’ve seen in a very long time.

You are flat out lying! (Or do you prefer ‘misleading’?)

    • Portia says:

Progress for whom exactly? Did you need a prescription for those rose-colored glasses?

      • Rumsoak says:

        The majority .

      • Point boy says:

I’m sorry. Where you expecting a check in the mail.

Life is what you make of it. I see this Government moving Bermuda in the direction that suits (all of Bermuda) very well.

President Kennedy once said ” not what your country can do for YOU. But. What can YOU do for you country!?

  4. Mr. Tyrell,

Retail sales are up 19 out of 20 months, GDP up for 6 consecutive quarters, AC 2017, triathlon ITU 2018 – 2020, Pink Beach, Morgans Point, surplus before debt service, hundreds of homes rented because of AC, deficit spending reduced, the cost to run the govt reduced, tourism increasing and air arrival numbers are up with $20m spend compared to plp $40m spend…and the list can go on.
Is the OBA perfect, is BDA back to where everyone is employed…NO. But with you saying we as a country is heading in the wrong direction makes me believe you are singing from a script rather than looking at reality. Don’t lose you good reputation by providing disinformation.

  5. Triangle Drifter says:

If voting was based on party performance rather than emotion & party behavior the PLP would be in for a major upset.

Sadly it does not work that way in Bermuda.

  6. Riley says:

Send Burt a message, vote for the Independent candidate.

  7. Quinton Berkley Butterfield says:

    VOTE INDEPENDENT!!

  8. Jahstice says:

    I am voting OBA.

  9. Rose says:

He is yet to come canvassing in my area. Instead I have received phone calls from other people wanting to know my concerns….. Very annoying!!!

  10. Terry says:

People are to quick to dislike. They only read a few words and make a judgement .

Keep reading and you may eventually figure out what ” ” means.
    Idiots.

  11. Darrell says:

Knowing Mr. Tyrrell for some time now I have to attest that he has been and still is a very honorable and genuine man. He has always been selfless and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of others, which he demonstrates on a constant basis. The constituats should be honored to have such a admirable delegate. He will make a change for the better, not based off of greed or political propaganda but based on the voices of the people and their needs and concerns. That I am sure of.

    I wish him the best.
