Collision: Police Confirm Death Of Kerry Petty

A female motorcyclist was taken to hospital following a collision between a car and motorcycle around 5.48am this morning [Sept 28] on Middle Road in Southampton in the area of Five Star Island.
A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision between a car and motorcycle that took place on Middle Road in Southampton in the area of Five Star Island at around 5:48am this morning [Thursday].
“Details at this point are unclear but the female rider of the motorcycle has been taken to the hospital and her condition is believed to be serious.
“The road around the vicinity of the collision has been cordoned off while the relevant police officers process the scene.
“The motoring public should expect traffic diversions and delays whilst the scene is being processed.”

Update 11.56am: The police confirmed the sad news that the motorcyclist involved, believed to be a 38-year-Southampton woman, has died, while the 30-year-old female car driver was “arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”
A police spokesperson said, “Police and first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision between a car and motorcycle that took place on Middle Road, Southampton in the area of Five Star Island around 5:48am this morning [September 28th].
“The motorcyclist involved, believed to be a 38-year-Southampton woman, was seriously hurt and rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance – but later succumbed to her injuries.
“Identification of the deceased will take place in due course, pending next of kin notification.
“The car driver involved, believed to be a 30-year-old Warwick woman, apparently sustained a shoulder injury. She was treated at hospital and later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
“Traffic was diverted away from the area for approximately three hours while the scene was processed.
“A full investigation into this year’s eleventh road fatality is underway. Witnesses are asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.”
Update 4.28pm: A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38-year-old Kerry Petty and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.
“Ms. Petty was seriously injured when the motorcycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car on Middle Road, Southampton in the area of Five Star Island around 5:48am this morning [September 28th].
“She was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.
“A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Ms. Petty’s family at this difficult time.
“The 30-year-old woman driving the car involved, believed to be from Warwick, has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries after initially being arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
“The investigation into the eleventh road fatality of 2017 continues and any witnesses are encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788 at the earliest opportunity.”
