Registration Open For Free Pee Wee Cricket
Registration for the free TMR Pee Wee ‘Have-a-Go’ cricket program for children aged five to seven is now open, with the program taking place at the Berkeley Institute gym beginning on Saturday, February 17 and running every Saturday through March 17.
The sessions will run from 1.00pm to 2.00pm for five-year-olds, and from 2.15pm to 3.30pm for six and seven-year-olds.
A spokesperson said, “During the sessions, the players will be introduced to the basics of cricket with the main aim of having fun. Utilising the “Have-a-go” Cricket equipment, coaches will work with the players on learning the basics skills of catching, bowling and batting with the aim of playing a game in the last session against the parents.”
“On March 10, the Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] is offering an additional session for the parents to learn fun skills and drills, which they play with their children at home. On the last day parents and their children will participate in a parent/child game followed by a short prize presentation.”
Lloyd Smith, President of the BCB, said, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank TMR for their continued support of cricket and Bermuda’s youth. The BCB’s popular Pee Wee Program will once again be offered FREE making it accessible to all. The Pee Wee Cricket program is the foundation of our Youth Development Program, which introduces the game of cricket in a fun, structured and safe environment to 5-7 year olds.
“The aim of our youth programs is to provide a clear pathway for players to progress from the age of 5 through to the senior level and TMR is a major sponsor supporting both Pee Wee Program and the 8&Under League. I would like to take this time to encourage parents to register their children early because this program fills up fast.”
Kathleen Faries, Head of TMR’s Bermuda branch, said, “TMR is extremely pleased to partner once again with the Bermuda Cricket Board who share our strong focus of bettering the lives of Bermuda’s youth through sports. We are pleased to see a number of Pee Wee graduates in the National Program including Leilanni Nesbeth, Jarryd Richardson and Nirobi Mills all of who give back by assisting the coaches in the Pee Wee program.”
“Please ensure players come in comfortable clothes, sneakers for running around and bring a hat and water.
