BCLS To Host Workshops With Yesha Townsend
The Bermuda College Literary Society [BCLS], in conjunction with the Division of Arts & Science, will be hosting a visit by Bermudian writer and spoken word artist Yesha Townsend on March 27 and 28th.
Ms Townsend’s work has been published both locally and overseas, and she has served as mentor and coach for the Bermuda National Youth Poetry Slam Team by way of the Chewstick Foundation’s youth poetry program ‘Break the Chains.’
She has performed as a rapper, poet and prose writer, notably at TEDXBermuda 2015, Women of the World Poetry Slam in Brooklyn, NY, 2016, and most recently she represented Bermuda in Barbados at Carifesta, a Caribbean arts festival.
Ms Townsend will be conducting workshops for high school English teachers and Bermuda College faculty, as well as a separate performance and Q&A session for high school and Bermuda College students. All of these events will be hosted on campus and are free.
The schedule is:
Tuesday — March 27th at 4:30pm — Poetry Performance/Workshop
- This event is open to High School English Teachers and Bermuda College Faculty, and has been approved by the Bermuda Educators Council for professional development. Educators may register via ERO, Course code-BC2018
Wednesday — March 28th at 2:00pm – Poetry Performance/ Q & A session for students.
- This question and answer session will entertain queries from students who may be interested in writing and/or performing poetry. This event, which is open to BC and high school students, has also been approved by the Bermuda Educators Council for professional development. Teachers may register via ERO, Course code-is BC20180
