BELCO Restore Power After Major Outage

July 19, 2018

[Updated] This morning [July 19] BELCO ”experienced a load shed situation” and as a result approximately 16,000 customers lost power across the island, and as of 9:33am, power has been restored to 23 circuits and 594 customers remain without power.

A spokesperson said, “At approximately 8:34am this morning, BELCO experienced a loadshed situation caused by the shutdown of two engines. As a result, 24 circuits [approximately 16,000 customers] lost power across the Island. Work is currently underway to address the issue and restore power as quickly as possible.

“Customers are advised that they do not need to call into BELCO. It is anticipated that customers who choose to call may not be able to get through due to the high volume of calls that would be coming into the phone system at the same time.

“Updates will be provided through local media and via BELCO’s Facebook page. Customers may also log on to www.belco.bm and access our new Outage Map for live updates to all outages.

“As of 9:33am, power has been restored to 23 circuits and crews are onsite to restore the final circuit. 594 customers remain without power.”

Update 11.21am: A spokesperson said, “Power was restored to all customers at 9:38am this morning.”

Is that a trick question???… I would assume that all would work well if they ‘upgrade the system’… Let’s pose the question back to you….. When you upgraded your last car, was your new one better??

(I’m struggling to give you the privilege of going with the old adage that there is no such thing as a dumb question.)

  2. Well done, BelCo workers.
