Photos & Video: Police Week In St. George’s

October 4, 2019

Police Week 2019 was celebrated in St. George’s today [Oct 4] when Parish Constable Simon Joseph, PC Adrian Haynes, PC Terry-Lynn Paynter, and Sergeant Cerepha Bridgeman spent time in the Town engaging with members of the public, visitors and school students.

PC Adrian Haynes said, “Today we are doing an initiative on the Town Square. Basically it’s a pastime that most Bermudians love called cricket. It’s been around a number of centuries now and one of the aspects we are focusing on primarily is fielding.

“We have set up some stumps on the Square and we’re challenging members of the public to throw down the stumps. The object is to be able to throw a ball and hit the stumps from facing front on and from both side angles.

“We have some Police Week gifts to hand out and we just want the public to engage us and have some fun. It’s all about having some fun.”

Bermuda throwing coach PC Terry-Lynn Paynter wasted no time in offering advice with throwing technique with the students and adults alike. Earlier, Parish Constable Simon Joseph and PC Adrian Haynes engaged with some of the motoring public to offer praise on good driving habits and share some gifts with them.

Police Week 2019 – which celebrates 140 years of policing in Bermuda — kicked off earlier this week with an Open House Event at the Hamilton Police Station and will continue with the Gymkhana getting underway at 10.00am tomorrow at Police Field, and a police memorial service at 4:30pm on Sunday October 6th at the Police Cemetery.

I’d be impressed if they had a Police Station in the old town instead of playing games!
