The Minister of Health Kim Wilson said: “As we enter the holiday weekend, I want to wish everyone an enjoyable but safe National Heroes Day weekend. I urge all residents to please play it safe by keeping space (at least six feet) between yourself and others. Don’t visit crowded beaches or parks where you cannot stay at least six feet away from others at all times, no raft-ups, and in situations where you have to be in closer proximity to others not in your household, wear a mask.

“We have to stay masked if we are going to be within three to six feet of other persons for more than 15 minutes. Practice everyday steps such as washing hands often and covering coughs and sneezes. Avoid gathering with others beyond your household, if you can or keep you ‘social bubbles’ small and limited to only a few individuals.

“And, finally, don’t socialize with others or visit parks or beaches if you are sick or were recently exposed to COVID-19. I would like to encourage everyone to please use common sense in the coming days and weeks. Think before you commit to a social plan. Think: Is this safe? Am I being responsible? Is this plan putting me or anyone else at risk?

“If you hesitate for even a moment in answering these questions, then please, don’t do it. Remember – the more interactions you have with others and the more you are out and about, the more at risk you put yourself and those in your household.”

“Members of the public are invited to tune-in to a Facebook Live broadcast by the Government of Bermuda on Wednesday June 17 at 2pm where Bermuda’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Cheryl Peek-Ball and BHB’s Chief of Medicine Dr. Michael Ashton will answer any medical questions you may have regarding COVID-19. Go to the link facebook.com/bermudagovernment and submit your question either in advance or during the live broadcast.

“Residents are encouraged to know their COVID-19 status and take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing being offered by the Ministry of Health at any of their pop-up locations or their drive-through testing site at Southside. To make an appointment for testing visit: https://bdagovcovid.resqwest.com/web/ or just show up.

“The pop-up testing schedule can be found here“.

  1. Ringmaster says:

After 11 days of no new cases one is confirmed with no explanation? Was it someone in quarantine from a recent flight? The Minister should be fired for being incompetent. It won’t happen because this is Bermuda. Don’t raft up, no more than 20 at a wedding or funeral, don’t do this or that, but we will give a permit to have thousands march against Government. Then the Government wants to open the airport? Stupid, stupid, stupid and no care about the most vulnerable.

  2. Rod L says:

I’ll be even more distressed if I hear that this latest case was caught while out marching or protesting.

  3. Cams says:

1 is enough, please DO NOT MARCH TOMORROW.
We all understand BLM, but let’s get this sorted first.
    People’s lives are more important.

  4. Here we go says:

7,000 people march with no physical distancing for hours and we now will start to see positive results. All 7,000, please go get tested before you spread it all over the Island!

  5. Jerry says:

We will all get the virus at some point unless a vaccine is developed and it will be back in the fall with a vengence it is better we have some sort of herd immunity plus look at the positive most recover quickly

    • Kathy says:

There is NO…REPEAT, NO scientifically proven herd immunity to this virus to date! To even discuss getting herd immunity is WRONG until it is scientifically proven.

Remember, if you develop antibodies to the virus, those antibodies will only last for a certain number of months….and then? What happens? Does it return? We don’t yet know. This is the danger of this virus.

It has been proven in many places around the world that you can get it again even without contact with other humans. Remember, this is NOT a flu, it only has flu symptoms.

It is more like HIV or Ebola in nature attaching and replicating in the body using the cellulare level RNA. I ask you, can you get herd immunity to HIV and Ebola?

  6. Real Deal says:

I think the smartest thing to do is to do a lock down and start infecting people in a controlled manner. that way we get 100% infection with zero fatalities. we could even just do it to the at risk group first and let every one else catch it from them naturally
