MoonGate Group hosted a reception for the MASA Assist “Life In The Caribbean” Art Contest, with Althea Faith Sevilla of Purvis Primary School chosen as the overall winner of the competition.
A spokesperson said, “MoonGate Group Ltd. [MoonGate] hosted a reception for the MASA Assist “Life in the Caribbean” Art Contest on Friday, September 18th at their offices in Sofia House on Church Street.
“Students from Bermuda’s public primary schools were given the opportunity to enter the contest, held in February 2020. These budding artists didn’t allow the COVID-19 pandemic to stop them: they completed and submitted their renderings to the Medical Air Service Association [MASA] headquarters in Tampa, Florida.
“Bermuda had 12 entrants from various schools. Overall winner, Althea Faith Sevilla of Purvis Primary School, was independently chosen by the executives of MASA! A huge congratulations goes to her!
“MoonGate’s staff agreed to “make them all winners” and host this socially distant event. Sofia House building manager, Gary Perry was gracious and made additional space available, with tables/chairs lent from the BEDC.
“MoonGate CEO, Mr. Leon Bascome opened the reception noting MASA’s product role within the company, how the competition involved many Caribbean islands and how students should continue to press on with their talents. Chantel J. Simons, Business Development Manager at MoonGate, organized the event and presented the students with certificates, art pencil sets and MoonGate gift bags.
“In attendance was the Art Director from the Department of Education, Dr. Shangri La Durham-Thompson, who was excited for MoonGate to be the host. She congratulated all students, parents and teachers present. She hoped that this competition could continue in the future, as it will encourage more of Bermuda’s students in the Arts. She also recognized how MoonGate had also donated other supplies to the Department of Education.
“MoonGate encourages Bermuda’s students in their art education and hoped that this recognition helps to boost their morale and enthusiasm in returning to a new school year for September 2020.
