Two Men Arrested And Replica Firearm Seized

January 24, 2021

Two men –  aged 49 and 45 — were arrested this afternoon [Jan 24] and a replica firearm was seized.

A police spokesperson said, “A replica firearm was seized and two males, aged forty-nine and forty-five years old arrested, after police received reports of two males wearing dark clothing and masks on a motorcycle near Cavendish Car Park on Cavendish Road, Pembroke.

“The passenger was carrying what appeared to be a firearm. Armed officers responded to the incident which occurred around 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday 24th January, 2021.

“There were other males with a video camera at the scene. This is the second such incident involving replica firearms in recent times and Stephen Corbishley, Commissioner of Police, once again expressed concern and displeasure at the situation.”

“Not only did these individuals behave recklessly and irresponsibly causing members of the public to be fearful for their safety, but they also put themselves at severe risk of being seriously hurt or worse by officers responding to a call of masked individuals armed with a rifle,” he said.

“Thankfully, nothing untoward came of this and that is in no small measure due to the extremely high level of extensive and rigourous training our armed response officers undergo.

“I once again remind the public, possession of replica firearms is against the law and anyone found in possession of such items, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”

“The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those members of the public who provided information that led to the arrest of the individuals involved,” a spokesperson added. “Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call 295-0011.”
