Annabelle Collins and her new horse Chuppy Checker CL narrowly missed out on achieving the qualifying score for this year’s Olympics, and while Ms Collins’ other horse has achieved the qualifying scores he has an injury, therefore Ms Collins will not be representing Bermuda in the upcoming Olympics.

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Equestrian Federation [BEF] is saddened to advise that Annabelle Collins and her new horse, Chuppy Checker CL, have narrowly missed out on achieving the Minimum Eligibility qualifying score to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics by a mere 0.4%.

“Although Annabelle’s other horse, Joyero VG achieved the requisite qualifying scores, he remains in recuperation due to an injury. Therefore, Annabelle will not be representing Bermuda in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.”

Ms Collins said, “As a horse person, I enjoy training my horses daily and appreciate that horses have good and bad days. We tried our very best but unfortunately, for this year, we will not represent Bermuda at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

“Chuppy will have a short break prior to returning to competition in late summer and autumn. I remain positive and we will continue on our road to represent Bermuda in the very best way possible.”

“The Bermuda Equestrian Federation commends Annabelle who, despite many daunting challenges including a global pandemic, the EHV outbreak and a change in mounts, has remained resilient, determined, and professional. Annabelle is positive and determined to continue her quest to represent Bermuda at the 2022 World Equestrian Games as well as at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” a BEF spokesperson said.

“The Bermuda Equestrian Federation share in Annabelle’s disappointment and will continue to support and encourage her in reaching her future goals of representing Bermuda.

“The Directors of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Bermuda Olympic Association for its tireless efforts and support provided to Bermuda’s athletes.”
