Bermuda’s Davis Cup Team Preparing In Tampa
Bermuda’s 2021 Americas Group III Davis Cup Team of Tariq Simons, Trey Mallory, veteran Gavin Manders, and newest member James Finnigan have been placed into a professional environment at the SVB Tennis Center in Tampa and have been receiving world-class coaching from Pascal Collard and former Temple University coach Andy Sorrentino.
Collard has coached players like former Rolland Garros finalist Martin Verkerk, top 10 ATP player Youness Elaynaoui and multiple top 100 WTA players. Sorrentino has coached Fazel Syed top 200 ATP and former Davis Cup player for India, along with numerous top 10 ITF players.
The days begin with breakfast at 8 am, warmup at 10 am with Peter Justin former trainer for John Isner, then at 10:30 high-level 3-hour training session on the court with Collard and Sorrentino with Bermuda National Tennis Director Ricky Mallory assisting.
The players take a lunch break from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and then starting right at 2:30 pm an intense 1-hour fitness session with fitness trainer Mel Williams former Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints NFL player, followed by a 30-minute stretch.
At 4:15 pm the players do cryotherapy which is used to accelerate recovery from intense workouts, before dinner and resting for the evening.
The Bermuda players are gearing up to compete in the prestigious Davis Cup taking place in Panama City, Panama on June 28th, at the Estadio Nacional de Tennis.
