‘Total Of 149 Travelers Have Been Quarantined’

July 15, 2021

“Since the start of the mandatory quarantine program, a total of 149 travelers have been quarantined,” Minister of National Security Renee Ming said.

Speaking at this week’s press conference, Minister Ming said, “I will offer a brief update regarding our management of the quarantine facilities since we introduced our most recent Covid-19 quarantine guidelines.

“As a reminder all non-vaccinated travelers arriving in Bermuda are required to do a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a government-authorized hotel.

“The cost of the stay is at the traveler’s expense.

“There are currently seven [7] approved quarantine locations. I wish to note that as of tomorrow, Fairmont Southampton will be online for bookings. Anyone looking for information on how to arrange a Quarantine Hotel should visit the government website.

“I want to stress that border protection is important as we aim to relax restrictions.

“The implementation of the quarantine facilities continues to effectively protect us from the dangerous new variants that exist.

“As at today’s date, I can report that:

  • There are 93 people currently in quarantine facility in 77 rooms.
  • 61 rooms have been paid for by the Government.
  • 28 people have paid for themselves.
  • This past weekend, there were 10 checkouts.

“Since the start of the mandatory quarantine program, a total of 149 travelers have been quarantined.

“Lastly, I think it’s important to reiterate the fact that as the Ministry of National Security continues its management of the various quarantine facilities we have taken steps to ensure that all guests are provided with the support and necessities they require during their 14-day stay.

“Once a guest arrives at the hotel or guest house, they are greeted by a Government representative, checked in and shown to their rooms.

“Food and amenities are available for guests.

“We appreciate that there are those in these facilities who need specialized items, and again, we have made accommodations.

“Persons who have family or friends in a quarantine hotel can drop essential care packages at the front desk of the hotel or guest property.

“Additionally, a daily schedule, including the staff duty roster and the activities are made available to all guests during their 14-day stay.

“While guests must remain in their rooms, they are also able to engage in pre-arranged activities such as walks, high-intensity training, yoga and meditation classes and any other wellness activities.

“Finally, Bermuda, we appreciate that these continue to be testing times. I wish to thank the public for their continued compliance of the health guidelines.

“The reality is that these are unprecedented times and we all need to work together to get through this pandemic. We may not always agree but we must be respectful.

“I encourage all residents and visiting travelers to stay informed about all of the quarantine guidelines by visiting www.gov.bm/coronavirus. Thank you.”

Yeah….come to HP. I have yet to see a daily schedule or any roster, no yoga or meditation. Just a walk which was even a challenge to try & get yesterday. To top it off, NO Government REPRESENTATIVE greeted me or escorted me to my room. No one even knew I was there for the first day. No check ins…

  2. Dejavu says:

So why are Sophia and Antonio not quarantined lol….I can’t wait to leave this backwards country

    • Patrice says:

They are quarantining… at home where they should be.
14 days is enough to lock in healthy people.

14 days was supposed to be for Positive cases and their vulnerable contacts.

How quickly the tide has changed.
And how easily we have been manipulated through more
fearmongering and demonizing people to think that it’s okay to
restrict the freedom of movement of innocent non-threatening people all under the guise of a Bermudian health policy which is blatantly ignoring the guidelines of the World Health Organization and Center on Disease Control. Only to hear… trust the science … while they ignore the facts to suit their narrative.

      • Jennifer says:

Agreed! Quarantine at home and get your follow up tests. If you’re positive then isolate. What happened to the tracking bracelets?
Why do people assume unvaccinated=irresponsible, sick, contagious, etc.? And now unvaccinated people are the reason for the pandemic now? Unvaccinated people are probably more cautious. Guess what? You can be healthy and unvaccinated. Everyone must be punished for the few that broke the rules before.
If the shoe was on the other foot, these same people who are attacking others, would be putting the others on full blast and expecting support. It’s not difficult to be respectful of others.

  3. Patrice says:

Our leaders should try out their mandatory hotel quarantine plan at their own rate then come back and report.

  4. Joe Bloggs says:

I know of 4 people who are not quarantining (https://bernews.com/2021/07/cannonier-watson-thank-the-community/)

    • Bermudian says:

I see that Cannonier-Watson said they are “thanking the community”. I’m sure most of the community is not thanking them in return for taking up police time and potentially putting the community at risk with their actions.
If it wasn’t for the police guard, I am quite sure they would be out and about doing exactly what they wanted, with no regard for others.

  5. Sy says:

This is absolutely degrading for Bermudians to come home to. This is a prelude for people to accept jail time. This whole process is made up of pure thin air. There is no science behind it and it violates the human rights act for when people are traveling. Read it. People who are for this thin air rule don’t know the extent of damage coming down the pipe line. Burt will have us all condition that this is normal but it isn’t.

Yes we are fighting for our rights to go and live a life. Understand that!!!!!

    • sandgrownan says:

      Get vaccinated. Simple.

Cases in the US are increasing. Over 600,000 have died. 99.1% of those hospitalised are unvaccinated.

The data is clear, infection rates plummet once vaccination programmes begin. We know the that data shows significant reduction in the rate of infection of those vaccinated compared to those unvaccinated. This isn’t opinion, just cold, hard facts.

We know recent spikes in Bermuda were caused by recent unvaccinated travellers moving around freely.

      • LOL (original) says:

Tell that to Kamala Harris and the run away dems all vaccinated!

        LOL
