Bermuda Is Love Free Clothing Giveaway On Sat
Bermuda Is Love will be holding a Free Clothing Giveaway at Elliot Primary School on Saturday [Dec 18] from 10.00am to 4.00pm, where they “will be giving away clothes for all genders, sizes and ages.”
A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Is Love previously held a Clothing Drive on November 13th where we collected clothes from the public. At our Free Clothing Giveaway on Saturday we will be giving these clothes away. Unfortunately, we are unable to take any more clothing donations at this time.
“The purpose of our Free Clothing Giveaway is to provide free clothing to people in need, as well as reduce the impact of fast-fashion and consumerism on our society. Clothing is a basic human need and a human right, and Bermuda Is Love believes that every person should have equal access to affordable, sustainable clothing.
“Further, the fast fashion industry encourages a throw away culture because the clothes are cheap and not built to last. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry on Earth and produces 10% of world emissions, which adds to climate change.
“Thus, we encourage the public to buy less clothing, buy ethically and sustainably, buy second-hand, up-cycle your clothes, donate what you do not wear, and treat your clothes with care to extend their life.
“Moreover, Bermuda Is Love was formed last year by a group of friends eager to make a positive impact in our community and tackle social and economic inequality. Our goal is to promote community and collaboration, so that we may create a Bermuda where everyone’s basic needs are met, and where everyone is treated equally, fairly and with respect, so that we can all be the best version of ourselves.
“We organize trash cleanups, blood drives, clothing drives, free clothing giveaways, up-cycling events, community gardens, and volunteer at food programs [Christ Church Warwick and the Cathedral] and housing shelters [Transformational Living Centre and Teen Haven].
