Faith Leaders Introduce X-Roads Peace Games
The Bermuda Committee announced their “moral support” for the X-Roads Peace Games in July 2022 that will be produced by Sahabaco Limited.
A spokesperson said, “February 4 is the third year anniversary for the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together[also known as the “Abu Dhabi Declaration”] between Pope Francis of the Catholic Church and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The February 4 signing date for the Abu Dhabi Declaration is a continuing feature within the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week that takes place throughout the first week in February.
“Later in that inaugural 2019 year for the Abu Dhabi Declaration, Bermuda formed its own committee for Human Fraternity between Emir Saleem Talbot from the Bermuda Islamic Cultural Center, the Most Rev Wes Spiewac [Catholic Bishop for Hamilton in Bermuda] and the Rt Revd Nick Dill [Anglican Bishop for Bermuda]. The Bermuda Committee has met on an intermittent basis to establish organic preconditions for sustained collaboration and measurable impact. Between 2020 and 2021, they have facilitated three “Trees for Peace” being installed at Court Street [Loquat Tree], Government House [Bermuda Olivewood Tree] and Winterhaven Cottage, Harrington Sound Road [Coconut Tree].
“This year marks the third anniversary for the Bermuda Committee. The Committee is pleased to announce their moral support for the X-Roads Peace Games in July 2022 that will be produced by Sahabaco Limited [Sahabaco]. The company has brought its leadership development infrastructure into the collaboration process in order to help mobilise international business resources that are dedicated to peacemaking alternatives.
“Sahabaco was originally established on Court Street in the 1980s and is deeply rooted in islamic trade, holistic health and food products, and sports management. The company is highly committed to reducing the increased violence, distress and insecurity throughout the community and values the diplomatic sensitivity that the Bermuda Committee is providing the country from a local and international perspective. Sabahaco first coined the phrase “X-Roads” to highlight the value that Bermuda brings to the global community as a geographic, social and economic “crossroads” in the Mid Atlantic region.
“Sahabaco are supporting the Bermuda Committee by organising and managing the X-Roads Peace Games to help bring peace through football across the age spectrum by including the emerging sports format for older generations – Walking Football.
“The X-Roads Peace Games by Sahabaco have historically focused on the highly successful UT7 Football Series which have been held since 2015 targeting college age and youth players. Beginning in May 6, 2022, this campaign will be expanded through walking football to include senior age players from the corporate community – an idea that was first proposed by the former Bermuda Governor, Mr Tony Rankin CMG as the original diplomatic host for the Bermuda Committee. The goal is to bring younger and older football fans together using walking football as a level playing field that is both safe and fun.
“The X-Roads Peace Games provides a new world class format in sports recreation to bring business leaders from their boardrooms into the community peacemaking process. The X-Roads Peace Games will be organised as a grassroots initiative that is able to mobilise interfaith collaboration for global followers of the World Cup spectacle in Qatar in November 2022.
“Support for the X-Roads Peace Games is already arriving through international representatives in the USA, Canada, the UK, Dubai, Turkey, Morocco, South Africa, New Zealand and Ethiopia.”
