No Charge For First Week Of Summer Camp
Public schools will close early for the summer break and the Department of Youth and Sport will commence summer camps a week early and “to help parents and guardians manage this adjustment to the school year there is no charge for this first week of summer camp,” Minister of Education Diallo Rabain said.
Statement In House
Speaking in the House of Assembly on Friday, the Minister said, “The Commissioner of Education recently announced to parents and the school community that we are bringing forward the end of the school year. The last day for students will be 24 June 2022 rather than 29 June 2022 as published on the Academic Calendar.
“This was not an easy decision to make and required the Department’s senior leadership team and the Ministry of Education to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages in terms of children’s learning, the inconvenience to parents and families and the longer term vision we have for learning.
“We understand this is an unexpected closure and have connected with our colleagues at the Department of Youth and Sport who will commence their summer camps a week early and start on Monday, June 27th. Registration for camps will be online only starting on May 25th.
“Please note that spaces at the camps are limited. More information on the summer camps can be found in the Scoop newsletter sent from the Commissioner of Education to every family yesterday, May 19th and on the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation website.”

Another example of the PLP Government giving away free stuff in return for votes.
Someday that PLP Government will run out of money to give away.
The well is already empty. The pot is dry. This is borrowed money that those kids will have to pay back with interest. Another day, another example of PLP f*ckwitery.
There is never no charge. You will pay one way or the other…MORE TAXES!!
Unless the teachers and staff are all returning their wages for that week, it isn’t really ‘no charge’, is it. We’re paying for it. Except in the tiny PLP minds where they think that when government pays for something that means it’s ‘free’.
