Governor Hosts Tea For Dr Matthews-Paynter
Governor Rena Lalgie hosted a tea in honour of Dr Dorothy Matthews-Paynter, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday.
A spokesperson said, “Over the weekend, Her Excellency hosted a tea in honour of Dr Dorothy L Matthews-Paynter. Dr Matthews-Paynter arrived to Government House with a very special group of ladies to celebrate her 100th birthday. She was joined by two cousins, one daughter in law and two granddaughters.
“After being greeted and officially welcomed to Government House by the Governor, laughter quickly filled the halls as Dr Matthews-Paynter shared stories of her youth, her ambitions, her many talents, her career, and of course, her family. Thank you for sharing your time, wisdom and birthday.”
This Governor seems very personable and I applaud her efforts to get in touch with the people of Bermuda. She spoke to my family as she walked by on Bermuda day for a little and it wasnt until she left that they realised the lady with the strong British accent was indeed the Governor. Very humble she is.
