Dickinson To Challenge Burt For Leadership

September 21, 2022

Curtis Dickinson will challenge the current PLP Leader David Burt for leadership of the PLP, and as the leader of the governing party serves as the Premier, the party election at next month’s conference will select the Premier.

In a letter to his PLP colleagues and reported by the BBC, Mr Dickinson — the former Finance Minister — said, “Earlier this morning I advised the Party Leader of my intention to put my name forward to run for the office of Party Leader at the upcoming Annual General Conference.

“Additionally, I sent correspondence to the Party Secretary General advising her of the same and requested that my letter be immediately distributed to all Branch Chairpersons and delegates. I look forward to engaging all of you in the coming weeks.”

The PLP delegates conferences is set to take place next month

A statement from a spokesperson for PLP Leader David Burt said, “David Burt has led our party to two national election victories. He led us through the pandemic and, prior to the pandemic, reduced the deficit without cutting Bermudian jobs, while investing in education, healthcare and social programmes. And, now, under his leadership, we are providing relief to working families during the worst global inflation in a generation.

“David has been involved with the PLP for nearly 20 years – through thick and thin. He’s worked his way up and strengthened the party at all levels. While we welcome any MP who wishes to stand for leadership, as this shows that democracy is alive and well within the party, we are confident that the delegates will look at the options and decide that in these times, we need steady and tested hands at the helm of the Progressive Labour Party.

“The Party Leader will respect the internal nature of our elections, which are not public media spectacles, and looks forward to debating MP Dickinson on the issues that matter to the members and delegates of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party.”

Update: On a related note, Renee Ming will be running for PLP Deputy Leader, a position that is currently held by Walter Roban.

    Start paying your puppets burt.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

They are not David Burt’s puppets. David Burt is a puppet himself.

    • IYKYK says:

You obviously don’t know Curtis as he’s nobody’s puppet. Not only is he a straight shooter, but he’s probably one of (if not the smartest person) in both parties. He’s always been genuine, fair and he gets stuff done. He’s not the type to tell you that the Ship is unsinkable. He’s the type that’ll tell you that he doesn’t care what the promotional pamphlet said the the SITREP is this and here’s the plan for us all to get out of it. I don’t think we’ve seen a politician of this caliber for far too long. I think we’re about to see something great happen.

    • Lost says:

U guys are lost. You are most likely not a member of a branch so you do not have a vote. Your first lesson. Second is you have rarely led even a Muppet parade and if called upon to lead you would shurk and jive and do nothing. You think it is easy. As a result of your Talk Show attitude of all mouth and no leadership or plans and strategies Birt will remain and Curtis resign his seat. Why waste his time with spectators from Talk Shows and no membership to make it happen.Get busy get involved or book the last seat at
the rest home.Burt ain”t going no where. I know you all want Jinks …he has a membership card biut you bitter complainers do not

      • Lol says:

That is so true. Imagine being in a party of 6 OBA that can’t even play musical chairs lol.

      • Burtcoin says:

Public service is the only job in the world that requires no experience for you to get in. Now days you need to show papers for other jobs just to prove you know how to brush your teeth bit not public service. If this is true then this country is in real trouble . Just face it your Muppets. Your all in it for the benefits. Otherwise you would speak out

  2. Ronue Cann says:

Premier Burt needs to be challenged no matter what he’s done in the past…my opinion is a challenge to his position is nothing but Healthy.

  3. BurtMustGo says:

Burt is finished. Very insecure “leader” who has not led us anywhere except to turmoil. His days are numbered

  4. Karen Watts says:

Curtis. Dickinson is far more qualified to lead

  5. Deborah Marshall says:

Burt talking about debate lol. This is not a debate competition mate, this is leading the country.

  6. Question says:

A man you can trust, at least. I might not agree with every last thing he says, but at least he is honest, intelligent, and supportable. He might even bring some unity.

    • Sandgrownan says:

Agreed. But given the lack of talent in the PLP, wud he reach across the aisle? Further, would he bring the unions and civil service into line?
How about starting with the taxi drivers?

Would he get the support of his party to do what Fahy and Richards tried to do? That’s the big question.

Will he clean the front bench of the idiots – and you know who they are.

Popular and straight as he is …. Can he cut through the bullsh*t?

      • Question says:

All good questions. But he would be a lot more supportable than Burt. With a change in leadership we might even get details published that would shed light on the current leadership’s insistence on continuing the TA form. Then people would see exactly what they have been supporting for all these years.

        • Sandgrownan says:

          He would, to be fair.

And he must have a clear idea of what he’s getting in to with the finances.

      • Billy says:

Reach across to the 6 are you lost your mind! No one is voting for that pathetic bunch of losers.

        • Sandgrownan says:

The point I was trying to make, which you spectacularly failed to grasp, is that the PLP isn’t exactly a deep well of talent. In fact, it’s pretty amazingly a vortex of incompetence. A black hole of suck that extracts any sort of constructive thought.

CD might do well to look outside the PLP for help since there’s no talent within.

          • James says:

Your party failed at changing the name and failed by using people of color as muppets. It’s 30 to 6, Curtis is not leaving the PLP to help a bunch of loser in the OBA with no talent.

            • Sandgrownan says:

Ah another PLPer who fails at reading comprehension.

Keep the lie going, it’s all you have left. Remember, you own this mess, all of it. 20+ years of incompetence, greed and failure.

Couldn’t run a piss up in a brewery.

            • saud says:

Your party has shown themselves to be racist, homophobic and xenophobic. You have absolutely no credibility left.
You’re no better than the OBA. LOL

            • Joe Bloggs says:

“Your party failed at changing the name”

Keep up the big lie. Never give up on the big lie!

          • X oba voter says:

Your party has 5 sad seats and 1 jet gate. You’re equally sad and pathetic and CD is not looking join you in any shape or fashion. He most likely desires the PLP to keep you buried in the ashes of the UBP, which the oba is and will always be. Now run along and blog about losing the next election since you have no real talent.

            • Sandgrownan says:

That’s the worst example of a “no you” argument I have ever seen. You argue like a 6 year old.

And don’t forget the real Jetgate was DREB. Real taxpayers money on a no bid contract for the “platinum period”… lol. That’s a real scandal right there.

The PLP experiment has failed. Grow up and own it.

            • Joe Bloggs says:

Thank you for that paid political comment, X oba voter.

        • saud says:

“…are you lost your mind! ”

          *have you…*

This is why you’re so far in debt.
This is why the rest of the world laughs at you.
          You’re barely literate.

  7. hmmmm says:

If Curtis gets in he should recruit Jarion Richardson away from the OBA sunken ship. Hopefully someone in Jarion family and friend circle will tell him that he’s wasting his time.

  8. Burtcoin says:

This is s life line for the country. I really hope he is successful in ridding us of this tyrant! Enough is enough

    • Triangle Drifter says:

A lifeline it is. The ship has sunk to the main deck & nobody has turned any pumps on.

      They don’t know how.

Hopefully Dickinson will get help needed wherever it is available. It takes a big person to do that.

      • John says:

The PLP is not even close to being on the bottom of the ocean floor with the UBPoba.

  9. Happy to Hear says:

Hallelujah! If successful, I expect Mr. Dickinson would be a safe pair of hands to manage Bermuda’s finances. Hopefully he would be a principled leader across the gamut of issues facing the country. Good luck to him. I for one am fed up with Burt’s autocratic leadership (or lack thereof!)

  10. Sandgrownan says:

I wonder how many of Burt’s drooling sycophants will jump ship? Going to be interesting to see who his friends really are.

  11. Ringmaster says:

David Burt may have ‘urged’ enough delegates to survive. So much for democracy as the delegates are unelected and unknown to the public. However, could there be a chance that if David Burt survives, Curtis Dickenson could go for a no confidence vote? There seems a split within the PLP for that to succeed, then dissolve the Government and call an election with new candidates. It could encourage good people who up to now have avoided politics, but could be just the way forward to save Bermuda.

  12. Sister Sister says:

What a breath of fresh air it will be to have Mr. Dickinson as a leader. He is
a team player, honest, intelligent, and a fair man. Curtis will not engage or tolerate any shady dealings. He has my vote and I pray he is our new Premiere.

    • Burtcoin says:

I agree it would be a breath of fresh air but unfortunately this kind of leader cannot survive. The air in politics is poison. Politics doesn’t allow you to do the right thing. That’s why he had to resign as Minister of finance in the first place. It will take balls . Most people don’t understand it’s really never been about real governing. But I still have hope like you that he can make real impactful change

  13. Thank you! says:

Thank you God and Mr. Dickinson! There might be hope yet! This is the best news!

  14. dunn juice says:

I See minister Scott not challenging for deputy leader now, Curtis got them all running already…
    LMAAAOOOO

    • Sandgrownan says:

Fascinating isn’t it. We can only speculate about the internal machinations of the PLP… but it’s got to be like a one legged kicking competition. Idiots.

  15. puzzled says:

    Just join OBA and run.
    Hell with the sinking ship.
    It’s save an Island time.

    • Ray says:

Why join a party that changed its name to run away from its past mistakes against the PEOPLE?

      • Sandgrownan says:

Oh look, it’s the lie being wheeled out again. 20+ years of PLP failure, greed and incompetence.

The jewel of the Atlantic turned into a barnacle encrusted piece of flotsam. It took 20 years, but you destroyed it eventually.

      • Wow says:

They actually changed the name to run away from a racist past. Funny how 6 seats caught up with them LMAO. Their trolls and muppets are cheering for Curtis because they have nothing in their own party to cheer for. LOLOLOLOLOLOL

        • Joe Bloggs says:

“They actually changed the name to run away from a racist past.”

          They actually did not.

But to clarify for those who might not know, the story that Wow is promoting is a propaganda piece paid for by the PLP and repeated at every opportunity by paid PLP commentators.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

Keep up the big lie, Ray. Never give up on the big lie!

  16. E W says:

Looking like the Southampton princess deal won’t go through!’

  17. Unknown800k says:

Now can we see the REAL gencom deal..
    Twitching Burt is

  18. Facts says:

Funny how all the trolls in the obaubp are supporting Mr. Dickinson. If he wins, next year they’ll be calling him the same names they called Burt.

    • Sandgrownan says:

It’s pragmatism. We know the electorate can’t be trusted with democracy. So, absent an informed populace an educated and obviously intelligent man, who by all accounts has some integrity, is better than what we have now.

As long as he can keep the drooling mouth breathers in the cabinet under control.

But you are right, if he f*cks it up, then he’s in trouble too.

    • saud says:

      …nobody calls names like a plp’er. LMFAO

    • puzzled says:

      Bullsheet Facts.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Keep up the big lie, “Facts”. Never give up on the big lie!

  19. No oba4 ever says:

OBA continue to sit on your chairs in the corner with your head’s planted on the wall. This is PLP business.

    • Sandgrownan says:

It’s everyone’s business. All of us. So yeah, we are going to comment on 20+ Years of PLP failure.

Go on, own it. You muppet.

    • Hmm says:

Now that’s funny. The clowns in the oba have no choice but to start another party called PVFU. Please vote for us.LMAO

      • saud says:

The OBA will never win, because the plp, and their followers, are racist, homophobic xenophobes, and they all play to each other.
It’s funny how they complain about the economy they destroyed. LMFAO

    • saud says:

PLP “business” = amateur hour….How’s Arbitrade doing? LOLOLOLOLOLO

      Lemmings.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

      “This is PLP business.”

I live east of White Hill, so my vote never counts anyway.
