December 30, 2022

The Ministry of Finance received “5,116 applications, and 3,625 persons have already been paid for a total of approximately $700,000,” the Ministry advised.

A Government spokesperson said, “The closing date for workers to apply for the payroll tax rebate was December 15th 2022. The payroll tax rebate was available for eligible persons making less than $96,000 per the Public Treasury [Administration and Payments] [Salary Based Benefit] Regulations 2022. The Ministry of Finance received 5,116 applications, and 3,625 persons have already been paid for a total of approximately $700,000.

“Of the applicants which have not yet been paid to date, a significant number are still awaiting additional information from the employee or their employer, some of whom have been contacted multiple times. In addition, there are approximately 125 which have been either denied by their employer or have been deemed ineligible as their salary exceeds the limit. It is anticipated that once the correct information is received, payments can be processed within five business days.

“We encourage any applicants and employers contacted regarding this rebate to please respond as soon as possible so that outstanding applications can be completed.”

  1. Really? says:

This number seems quite low. 5,000+. There has got to be a much larger percent of the population being paid in these brackets.
I refused to respond because I felt this rebate was (1 peanuts compared to what is needed. Charity provides much more help than this. (2 a political stunt coming into play the day before the re-election of the Premier. I would not be bribed or coerced into giving this kind of support to anyone. That is called being a ‘yes’ man. I’m not that gullible.
