Kiwanis Club Honour Sloan & Royce Wakefield
The Kiwanis Club of St George’s has named Sloan and Royce Wakefield as the ‘Heroes of the Year’ for 2022.
A spokesperson said,” As they have done for many years, the Kiwanis Club of St George’s has named the ‘Heroes of the Year’ for 2022. Two brave souls share the award – they are brothers Sloan and Royce Wakefield. They were instrumental in pulling a burning boat away from the dock at Dowling’s Service Station in St George’s.

“The incident occurred in October; the brothers had just finished refueling their craft Tenacious when the board ahead of them was rocked by an explosion. The tenacious duo managed to secure a rope to the burning craft and towed it out to the middle of the St. George’s Harbour.”
Sloan Wakefield said, “We just knew that we had to get that burning boat away from the gas station.”
The spokesperson said, “The only injury occurring in the drama was to the owner of the burning craft – he suffered a broken heel when he jumped from his boat to the wharf.
“The potential for further and extensive damage to surrounding properties was high, but the heroes of the year averted any further destruction.”
Congratulation Sloan and Royce!
