Karting driver Blake Horseman is preparing for a weekend of high-octane action as he eyes a pair of podium finishes at the Lindo’s Grand Prix.
Along with Scott Barnes, David Barbosa and Brian Bulhoes, Horseman will compete in multiple classes; the 21-year-old expects to challenge for honours in the Shifter and Tag Seniors.
“The competition is strong, and I’m looking forward to testing myself against a great bunch of drivers,” Horseman told Bernews.
“My goal is always to win, but if I can get a couple of podiums, I will be more than happy.
“I don’t find competing in two classes too tiring. I’m pretty young and have plenty of stamina left in the tank.
“I’m pretty kart fit. I enjoy it, and it’s fun to race two classes, although it can get a bit expensive!”
For Horseman, the Lindo’s Grand Prix will be his first street race competing in the adult divisions; he raced in the Hamilton Grand Prix in 2014 and the Dockyard Grand Prix in 2017 as a junior.

He expects the nine-driver Shifter class, including former street race winners Barnes and Brandon Franks and overseas race Christian Oldhafer, to be particularly competitive.
“The Shifter class is the most eye-catching in the Bermuda Karting Club, and I think that will be the case for the street race,” said Horseman, who won the KZ Shifter class this season and was part of the team of drivers who claimed the Tag Senior class title.
“It’s going to be tough. Scott and Brandon are extremely talented drivers and have lots of experience. It’s always a pleasure to race against them.”
It is expected the new circuit in north-east Hamilton – including Court Street, Dundonald Street and Princess Street – will be more conducive to overtaking, with race organisers hoping the event will attract the biggest crowd so far for a local Grand Prix.
“There’s a lot of hype about these street races,” Horseman added. “For many, it’s the only time they see the local drivers in action.
“It’s great to see the whole island partake in a race like this, people from all types of backgrounds; it really is a special race for the drivers. Hopefully, we can put on a good show for them.”
