Sloop Foundation Welcomes Shawnette Somner
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation is welcoming Shawnette Somner to its team on a temporary basis as Interim Education Manager.
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation posted the graphic online below, saying, “We are pleased to welcome Shawnette Somner to the team on a temporary basis as Interim Education Manager. As a veteran educator of 39 years, and with a vast array of educational experiences, Shawnette is particularly passionate about young people learning as much as they can, in as many different arenas they can, in order to obtain skills that can help them take advantage of opportunities presented before them.
“Shawnette says she is humbled to be working at the BSF as it brings back fond memories of the life-long lessons her now 25-year-old son learned as he sailed aboard Spirit of Bermuda from Bermuda to Haiti when he was a teen.”
Ms. Somner said, “Every young person should have the opportunity to experience The Spirit of Bermuda in order to develop skills in teambuilding, resilience, problem solving, and discovering their capabilities away from home. It was tough to let go but it was one of the best decisions I made as a parent.”
