Collision Involving Bus & Car In Hamilton Parish

[Updated] There was a collision this morning [July 5] in Hamilton parish involving a bus and a car.

A police spokesperson said, “It appears that around 8:15am Wednesday, 5th July 2023 a bus and a car collided on Harrington Sound Road, Hamilton parish, in the vicinity of Leamington Caves.

“Early information indicates that the car driver was hurt. Traffic diversions are currently in place at Paynters Road and Trinity Church Road.

“Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays in that area while inquiries are conducted at the scene. An update will be provided when more information is available.”

Update 4.48pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 8:15am Wednesday, 5th July 2023 police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision on Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton parish, near the junction with Cedarberry Drive.

“Details remain limited at this time.

“However, it appears that a bus and a car collided on Harrington Sound Road, in the vicinity of Leamington Caves.

“The car driver, believed to be a 27-year-old local man, was hurt and apparently had to be extracted from the vehicle.

“He was then transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, for treatment. The extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

“So far, there is no indication that anyone on the bus was hurt.

“Traffic diversions in the area were in place for approximately two hours, while the scene was processed.

“Any witnesses are encouraged to call 211 as soon as possible, or e-mail 211@bps.bm.”

    Was this an electric bus? What are the damages? Will it have to be scrapped?

    No, you can tell by the rear of the bus, that it is a diesel bus. If it were electric, the battery could have been compromised which COULD have caused Thermal Runaway and a horrid fire that would burn for hours, like what is happening in many other countries, with electric vehicles. It is only a matter of time here. Check out YouTube!
    You will see plenty of electric scooters, cars and busses bursting into flames that no little amount of water would put out! I hope our fire service has their plan in motion already, all the logistics for their first Big Lithium fire.
