Kwame Naylor Selected As 2023 AXA XL Scholar
AXA XL, the P&C and specialty risk division of AXA SA, today announced that the 2023 AXA XL Scholarship has been awarded to Bermuda National Rugby U19 Team Captain and Warwick Academy Head Boy Kwame Naylor.
A spokesperson said, “The AXA XL Scholarship is a full scholarship awarded to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in [re]insurance industry related studies.
“Eighteen-year-old Kwame will begin studying at Loughborough University in the UK this September. He will be majoring in Business and plans to graduate with an Accounting and Financial Management Degree in 2027. Throughout his school years Kwame has excelled at academics and athletics.

“At Warwick Academy, he consistently made the Principal’s List for Academic Honours, received awards in IB Higher Level Business, French and Physical Education, as well as the Board of Governors’ Prize for high grades in 10 GCSEs, and was awarded a Sixth Form Scholarship for his IGCSE results. During his final year, even with a demanding schedule, he achieved a 3.9 GPA and an International Baccalaureate [IB] score in the top 17 percent of IB Diploma students globally.
“In addition to his academic achievements, Kwame has been actively involved in sports, extra-curricular and community activities.
“Among his sporting achievements, he represented the Bermuda National Rugby Team as the Captain of the U16 National Team, and he is currently the Captain of the U19 National Team. He was a Bermuda Football Association U17 League MVP and currently plays local premiership football as a member of the Robin Hood Men’s Team. In addition to winning several sports awards, he was also recognized nationally with the Denton Hurdle Memorial Award in 2019 and 2023. During his middle and high school years, he participated in Football, Rugby, Cross country, Swimming, Athletics, Bridge, Volleyball and Cricket.
“From 2017 to 2021, Kwame played the saxophone as part of a wind ensemble and concert band, achieving a Grade 5 in music theory.
“During his time at Warwick Academy, he was a head prefect, student mentor, a Sixth Form Student Council representative and a member of the Human Rights Committee and the Eco Club. He was also selected to participate in the Berlin Model United Nations [where international students debate and resolve global issues].
“As far as community service, Kwame has been a Lions Club Bermuda Volunteer since 2015, assisting the organization and Warwick Academy with tag days and other community fund raising activities.
“Since 2018 he has been a Junior Rugby Coach, working with U6, U8 and U10 age groups. Last year, as a member of Warwick Academy’s Eco Club, he initiated a beach clean-up project, with his friends, at Church Bay in Southampton.”
AXA XL Scholarship Committee Chairperson Carol Parker Trott said: “As in previous years, the calibre of scholarship applicants was impressive. The Scholarship Committee unanimously selected Kwame based on his academic accomplishments, achievements in athletics and extra-curricular activities, leadership qualities, community involvement, and outstanding performance during the scholarship interview. As a high achiever both inside and outside the classroom, there is no doubt that Kwame will make the most of his time at university and ultimately contribute significantly to Bermuda’s International Business sector as well as the wider community.”
