Devonshire Colts To Celebrate 65th Anniversary
Devonshire Colts Football Club will celebrate its 65th anniversary next month with two major events to commemorate the occasion: the release of a documentary on the club and a black-tie gala celebration.
A spokesperson said, “The documentary, titled Sportsmanship, Character, and Unity: The 65 Year Journey of Devonshire Colts, will discuss how the club evolved from its foundational years at Howard Academy to a flourishing football programme centered around the development of players and coaches both on and off the field.
“It will also provide the historical context and impact the club had on the Black Bermudian community including interviews from former coach Donald ‘Dick’ Dane, former club player and national team captain Shannon Burgess, and club stalwart and youth coach Fleck Wilkin discussing the clubs’ history and current trajectory.
“On Saturday, September 16, a special documentary screening to mark the release will be held at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, beginning at 7 pm. Tickets for the event are $25. The night will begin with cocktails followed by the documentary screening, and ending with remarks from the current president, Zuri Darrell and the documentary film producers. The Bermuda Arts Council is the main sponsor of the documentary.
“On Saturday September 30th, Devonshire Colts will host a 65th Anniversary Black-tie Gala at the Hamilton Princess. The Gala will feature a history wall, silent auction, moments of reflection and awards to honor long-serving coaches. Ticket purchase includes a four-course meal and live local entertainment. Patron tickets are $265, and general tickets are $165.”
“As a community club for 65 years, telling our story and celebrating our stalwarts is important as it connects generations to come with the passion of being part of Devonshire Colts family, “ says Mr. Darrell.
“Having been with the club for my entire football career, I have a special affinity to Colts and am honored to have the opportunity to publicly recognize those with a steadfast commitment to Devonshire Colts. I’d like to extend a personal invitation to past and present players along with the extended Devonshire Colts family to come out and enjoy the festivities and take time to reminisce about the past.”
The spokesperson said, “Tickets to both events can be purchased on www.gpass.bm. Part proceeds will benefit the Devonshire Colts Football Club Youth Programme. For any questions or to learn more please visit www.devonshirecolts.com or email president@devonshirecolts.com.”
