Bermudian reggae singer Ronae Burgess, who performs under the name Slanga, hopes his new song, Bermuda [441], helps put the island on the map and strikes a chord with local audiences.

An official video for the song, which serves as a love letter to the island, has also been released on YouTube.

“I find it interesting that so many people worldwide still haven’t heard of Bermuda or don’t know where it is,” Mr Burgess told Bernews.

“This song is paying homage to the island and its culture.”

Mr Burgess, whose previous singles include Devil’s Isle, Heart Cries Out and Dark Life, believes social media has become an essential tool for local artists to release their music quickly into the public domain.

“Everything is at your fingertips nowadays with different [social media] platforms,” said Mr Burgess, who has opened for acts such as Wayne Wonder, Gyptian, Cham and Mr Easy.

“It’s easier to get your music out there quickly. The sad part is music nowadays probably doesn’t last as long because people get tired of things quickly.

“People are hungry and thirsty for music because they’re always online looking for what’s new.”
