Smith’s South Bye-Election On October 5

The bye-election in Smith’s South – which has been called due to the resignation of Cole Simons — has been set for October 5, 2023.

A spokesperson said, “The Parliamentary Registrar wishes to advise the public that Her Excellency the Governor Ms. Rena Lalgie has issued a writ of election for a bye-election to take place for Smith’s South on October 5, 2023. The 7-day registration period for this bye-election will close on Wednesday, 30 August 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

“Voters living in Smith’s South are encouraged to ensure their registration details are correct and up to date. Registration forms are available at the Parliamentary Registrar’s Office and on the website at www.elections.gov.bm. All pertinent information relating to this bye-election will be made available on the website. The Parliamentary Registry is in Craig Appin House on the 3rd floor, #8 Wesley Street in the City of Hamilton.”

The political parties have not yet announced their candidates. The seat, as the chart below shows, has been held by Cole Simons for two decades, since the single seat system was introduced.
