Boxing: Andre Lambe Defeats Sergio Herrera
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Andre Lambe overcame the toughest test of his professional boxing career after defeating Sergio García Herrera via a majority decision in the main event of Fight Night Champion at The Shed in Dockyard last night [October 28].
Lambe improved his perfect record to ten victories, with two judges awarding the fight to the southpaw 58-56 and the other judge scoring it a draw.
The Bermudian, who retained his American Boxing Organisation regional welterweight title, said he had to dig deep against the higher-ranked Mexican [7-3] to ensure he triumphed in the six-rounder.
“It was my hardest fight, but also my best fight to date,” Lambe told Bernews.
“Heading into the fight, I knew it wasn’t a definite win; it would be a test, and I’d have to work hard. I knew I was up on the cards by the final round, and I pulled it off.”
The 28-year-old said he was conscious of avoiding Herrera’s concussive right hand and was satisfied with how he executed a flawless game plan.
“Our game plan worked well, shooting straight left hands down the middle and taking away his jab,” Lambe said.
“He has a good right hand, so I was looking to slip it, come underneath it, or move out of the way and catch him with a left hand.”
Lambe will take a well-deserved break, having fought four times this year, but revealed he already has a contest scheduled in Galveston, Texas, on June 1 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
“It’s been a long year for me and the team,” added Lambe, who beat Bryan Springs in Cleveland, Texas, in his previous outing in August.
“I‘m scheduled to fight in Texas again on a bigger card in June. Depending on how the dates line up, I’ll look to get something before that. I’m trying to take this to the next level.”
That is awesome. Best wishes.
Very impressive young man and good for you sticking to the game plan
