Photos & Video: Clyde Best Wall Artisan Market
[Written by Dale Butler]
On a warm summer day, Clyde Best Lane, with note-worthy art work on the walls, came to life on Sunday, Oct 22nd at 3pm with the presence of one of Bermuda’s greatest soccer stars, Clyde Best, who walked to all 13 vendors in humility as they stared at his brilliant light as a humble native who did so well in local and UK soccer that is now being made into a movie.
Once again Barbara Dillas and Kim Wilkerson of the Best Wall Project Committee, pulled this off with fine speeches, The Somerset Brigade Band, violinist Tiffany Fox, Minister the Hon. Tinee Furbert J.P.,M.P. and a very welcoming crowd who enjoyed the entertainment and patronized the vendors.
After listening to Mr. Best give a very eloquent summary of his life, one could only wonder why all efforts to have him knighted have not taken place. Perhaps a new British Labour Government would be more sensitive to his accomplishments and place in history that so many admire. The success of the afternoon calls for such a request to be made again. With the wind in their sails, look out for a Dec. 9th People’s Market to be held at the Warren Simmons Field.
