The Salvation Army introduced new Officers and Pastors for Bermuda, including Major Darryl and Cathy Simms as well as Lt. Lester and Almeta Ward.

A spokesperson said, “The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory takes great pleasure in introducing the new Officers and Pastors for Bermuda. It is great that Major Darryl and Cathy Simms have returned to Bermuda after previously pastoring at the Newlands Corps, at Friswell’s Hill, Devonshire. The Simms, having a wide experience as Corps Officers, [or Church Pastors], and Divisional responsibilities in Canada, were excited at the news of returning to the island to minister once again.

“Major Cathy serves as the Divisional Commander/Leader of The Salvation Army in Bermuda and gives oversight to all operations of the Army on the island. Major Darryl Simms is the Corps Officer, giving pastoral leadership at the North Street Citadel.

“Major Darryl is known for his energetic preaching and teaching of God’s Word. Both Majors Simms have expressed a desire to work among local leadership and lead the church in programs that are relevant and transformational, encouraging individual and community change.

“Major Cathy Simms expressed her desire to work closely with Salvationists, The Government, other Churches, and the many community organizations with a similar purpose of meeting the needs of the marginalized and those seeking change. She personally expressed the desire to encourage the next generations to enlist in these efforts.

“New to the Island are Lt. Lester and Almeta Ward from Newfoundland, Canada. The Wards have been married for almost 30 years and lived in western Canada for several years. Lt. Lester has a unique background in Employment and Human Relations, while Lt. Almeta has an important background in Childcare and Management.

“Lt. Lester Ward is the Executive Director of Community Services, which oversees the Harbour Light program, the Emergency and Transitional Housing Shelter and Emergency Disaster Services and also serves as the Area Business Manager for Divisional Headquarters.

“Lt. Almeta Ward has been appointed as the Corps Officer/Pastor of the St. George’s Corps. She will also give oversight to Women’s Ministries within the Division. Lt. Almeta is excited to dive into the St. George’s community and encourage the members of the Church, and members of community, to minister to those in need.

“Lt. Lester and Almeta dropped their former life and, as middle agers, answered God’s call and became full time pastors. They also laughed as they expressed their delight and thankfulness to be appointed to Bermuda from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

“We look forward to the continuous move by The Salvation Army, through God’s direction, to the transformation of lives in Bermuda.”
